"I need not mention," says Strype, "this admirable book of the lives of the Abps. of Can-
terbury, which he might well style the British Antiquities,' there being such a plentiful
treasure of choice antiquities collected together." It is now generally allowed that this
work was not written by Abp. Parker, but by his Grace's chaplain, John Josseline, and by
Dr Acworth; however, it is said that the archbishop planned the work, and supplied his
assistants with materials from his own collections (principally in MS.) of ecclesiastical
antiquities.
