THE DESIGN OF AFFLICTION.
Therefore behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and
make a wall that she shall not find her paths : and she shall
follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them ;
and she shall seek them, but shall not find them : then shall
say, I will go and return to my first husband ; for then
was it better with me than now.-Hosea ii. 6, 7. Page 54

RELIGION MAKES US PROFITABLE.
I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have be-
gollen in my bonds : which in time past was to thee unpro-
fitable, but now profitable to thee and to me.-Philemon 10,

they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by, and he
cried, saying, Jesus thou son of David have mercy on me ;
and they which went before rebuked him that he should
fiold his peace : but he cried so much the more, thou son
of David have mercy
And Jesus stood and com-
manded him to be brought unto him, and when he was
come near, he asked him, saying, what wilt thou that I shall
do unto thee ? and he said, Lord, that I
sight ; and Jesus said unto him, receive thy sight : thy faith
bath saved thee : and immediately he received his sight,
and followed him, glorifying God.- Luke xviii, 35 to 43.
