"This might in justice be called the age of Cyclo

pædias, and good ones, too.

Chambers's

Encyclopædia

is among the olde and in many respec

the best of its clas

Especially is it the best, if we take .nto consideration the number and sco of the subjects discussed. A serviceable Cyclopædia is a mean between library of exhaustive treatises on a large number of subjects and a dictionary In Chambers's we find this golden mean. It is a great advantage to hav a Cyclopædia that has undergone many revisions. New Cyclopædias mus of necessity be imperfect; the age of this gives it its value. The busy m frequently wants something at hand to which he can turn at once; for e ample, the custom of 'chalking the door' is referred to in conversation. i. a minute, Chambers's gives the information; or Charles I. is discussed. and Chambers's gives in a condensed manner all the principal facts. N one disputes the accuracy of this work, and this is one of its greates merits.

"Every school, containing pupils above the primary grade, should ow some encyclopædia. We can hardly see how efficient instruction can b secured without it. We have had Chambers's on our editorial shelves fr years, and, although others are near by, we hardly know how we could 'keep house' without it."-School Journal, New York.
