"Let us leave this place before that fearful time arrives," said I, and with the desire to go, I awoke from sleep.

HOW SIR TRISTRAM REACHED HIS FATHER'S HOUSE.

Now, after Sir Tristram had journeyed far in divers lands, and tried how this thing and that would fit his spirit, seeing many strange adventures, achieving great exploits, and enduring wondrous perils, he bethought him that he would return unto his father's house; for he said within himself, "I have now seen, and heard, and done all things that a mortal man may, but what remaineth to me this day of those things in which I once took delight? I am aweary of that which hath been seen, and heard, and done, even from the beginning, and who will show me aught besides, therefore will I return unto my father's house in peace.

So he travelled long, over land and sea, over mountain and flood, until it fell out that one evening, towards night-fall, he
