that my footsteps slipped not. From how many evils hast thou saved me, from how many dangers preserved me! how many days and nights watched over me! and, as a father, guided me my whole life long. Can I then doubt of thy goodness and mercy to the last? O death, thou shalt be welcome! It brings me near to thee. Let me leave earth to be with thee in heaven, my Saviour and Redeemer.

SATURDAY MORNING.

"It is of the Lord's mercy that we are not consumed. His mercy is unfailing, and is renewed every morn ing; great is thy faithfulness."-JEREMIAH'S LAMENTATIONS, iii. 22, 23.

MERCIFUL GOD, and Father of all living! thee I praise for thy great goodness, which has preserved me the past night from fear, anguish, and danger. Thou hast refreshed and strengthened my faculties by sweet sleep, and renewed my life to me this morning. This day reminds me of the completion of thy great work of creation. It also reminds me of the resting of our Lord Jesus Christ in the grave, after he had completed his work of suffering unto

death, whereby he created a new spiritual generation of man, and established, in grace and peace, an everlasting kingdom.

This day my mind reviews the series of mercies enjoyed by me throughout the week from the bounteous hand of thy providence. Heartfelt thanks and praises are due to thee, merciful Father, in heaven. Let me not be thankful only in word, but display my gratitude by every act of my daily life. Let it not be the work of the lip, but of the heart, with all its affections. May thy great goodness excite me to serve thee with a childlike, willing, perfect obedience.

Thy mercy is renewed to me this morning. What should I be without thee, merciful Creator and Preserver ! Let me now and ever live in a sense of my entire dependence on thee: enable me to employ my faculties aright; to pursue my appointed work with zeal, and integrity, and

yet more so as I feel my time speeding on. One week after another passes away rapidly to eternity. Here I am, in a state of trial and probation, a stranger, as my fathers have been ;-heaven is my country.

Help me, Lord, to walk here on earth as a citizen of Zion, preparing for a rich harvest hereafter. May I do the work thou givest me to do, and sow a good seed to be reaped in eternity.

SATURDAY EVENING.

"There remaineth yet a rest for the people of God. For he that hath entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us, therefore, labour to enter into that rest."HEBREWS iv. 9, 10, 11.

ETERNAL GOD, and Father of all men! I kneel down before thee to offer up my evening sacrifice of prayer and praise. Another week of my existence here is passing away, and I am brought another step nearer to the end of my course. O that this week, now sunk into the abyss

may witness good for me!

of past time,

Has this day,

this week, been entirely lost to me, or will the work done in this little period of time be found by me in eternity?
