They were afraid of your Penetration and Eloquence, your Courage and Wisdom, and your unalterable Love to your Country, which they were refolv'd to betray and ruin. Your Prefence was a continual Reproach to them. Your Conftancy intimidated, and your Integrity confounded them, and, feeing they cou'd not gain their wicked Ends, as long as you were in the House of Commons, to explain and expofe them, they began their Tyranny, with refufing you your juft Seat there: And it is your Glory, Sir, to have been deny'd your Right by that prevailing Party, who

Had they been capable of Shame, they would have been prevail'd upon by the repeated Voice of the People you represented, to do you Juftice,but they were bent upon profecuting you at the Expence of Law and Reason, and could not bear to have fo zealous a Friend to the Protestant Succeffion, in an Affembly, fummon'd to give a Santion to a Miniftry, that was in the Interefts of the Pretender.

It is certain, this Rage of theirs against you, was not only enflam'd by your admirable Speeches in Parliament; but also by thofe excellent Writings, which they were fatisfy'd came from your Pen, there being no other which cou'd with fo much Judgment, and fo much good Sense and Experience, detect their Treachery, baffle their Cunning, and fet them forth to Mankind in their true Light, which fhew'd them to be as much wants
