A letter above the weight of 12 ounces is liable to a postage of 1d. for every ounce or fraction of an ounce, beginning with the first ounce. Thus, a letter weighing between 14 and 15 ounces must be prepaid, fifteenpence.

The fee for registering a letter is twopence.

A letter must not exceed 18 inches in length, 9 inches in width, or 6 inches in depth, unless it be sent to or from one of the Government Offices.

One halfpenny each; if several in one packet, the same as book postage rates.

LETTERS, &c., FOR THE COUNTRY

Must be posted at a receiving house before half-past 5 p.m.; at a Branch Office before 6 p.m.; or with an extra stamp before a quarter to 7 p.m. Letters can be posted at the General Post Office, St. Martin's-le-Grand, until 6 o'clock at the ordinary postage rates; after 6 until 7 p.m., on payment of a penny in addition to the postage; until a

quarter-past 7, 2d.; until half-past 7, 6d.; and until a quarter to 8, 1s.; and at the Charing Cross Branch Office until a quarter-past 7 p.m. on payment of fourpence in addition to the postage.

LETTERS FOR LONDON

Should have the District letters added to the address to ensure more prompt delivery.

and so on, one penny being charged for every pound or portion of a pound.

Orders are issued and paid at the Chief District Offices, and at the Branch Office at Charing Cross, every day except Saturday, between 10 and 4; on Saturday between 10 and 1.

Telegrams.

One uniform rate of One Shilling for a message not exceeding twenty words to any part of the United Kingdom (except the Scilly Islands), and Threepence for every additional group of words not exceeding five in each group.

The names and addresses of the sender and receiver are not charged for.

If stamps for the correct amount are affixed to the form, the message may be posted at any proper receptacle for letters, and the message will be forwarded when it reaches the post office.
