The amount of the deficit, or difference between the Cost of Provisions and Receipts in the Coffee-Room, is larger, by £181. 12s. 5d., than it was last year; this is to be accounted for by the increased prices of Provisions during the greater part of 1840 and the Committee have had much satisfaction in ascertaining from the most minute inquiries, that the whole deficit on this head, though amounting to no less than £814. 5s. 4d., presents a proof of economy and good order in the General Management of the Club, not surpassed by that of any other similar Establishment in the Metropolis. The Library of the Club is daily becoming more perfect and more attractive to the Members. The number of Volumes in the possession of the Club, up to the 23rd of last month, has been ascertained to be 17,495.
