State of our present knowledge of the physical diagnosis of diseases of the respiratory organs, I have availed myself of the latest and most approved works on the subject. My acknowledg ments are especially due to the Practical Treatise on the Diseases of the Lungs, Heart, and Aorta, by Professor Walshe, and to the Traite Pratique d'auscultation, etc., by MM. Barth and Roger.1 I have also consulted with advantage, the works of Stokes, Fournet, Gerhard, C. J. B. Williams, Hughes, Bow ditch, Swett, Alfred Stille, Holmes, J. Hughes Bennett, and Skoda. In addition, numerous papers on particular topics have been examined, as well as books treating incidentally of matters pertaining to physical exploration, which are referred to in the body of the work.
