For the beginning of her is the most true desire of discipline. Wisdom vi. 18.

And the care of discipline is love; and love is the keeping of her laws: and the keeping of her laws is the firm foundation of incorruption: Ver. 19.

And incorruption bringeth near to God. Ver. 20. Therefore the desire of wisdom bringeth to the everlasting kingdom. Ver. 21.

Love the light of wisdom, all ye that bear rule over peoples. Ver. 23.

The multitude of the wise is the welfare of the whole world and a wise king is the upholding of the people. Ver. 26.

The love of God is honourable wisdom. Ecc'us. i. 14.

The root of wisdom is to fear the Lord; and the branches thereof are long lived. Ver. 25.

Son, if thou desire wisdom, keep justice, and God will give her to thee. Ver. 33.

Foolish men shall not see her: for she is far from pride and deceit. Ecc'us. xv. 7.

Lying men shall not be mindful of her but men that speak truth shall be found with her, and shall advance, even till they come to the sight of God. Ver. 8.

Who will set scourges over my thoughts, and the discipline of wisdom over my heart, that they spare me not in their ignorances, and that their sins may not appear. Ecc'us. xxiii. 2.

Lest my ignorances increase, and my offences be multiplied, and my sins abound. Ver. 3.

The Lord hath made all things, and to the godly he hath given wisdom. Ecc'us. xliii. 37.

Covet ye my words, and love them, and you shall have instruction. Wisdom vi. 12.

Keep thyself, therefore, and thy soul carefully. Forget not the words that thy eyes have seen, and let them not go out of thy heart all the days of thy life. Thou shalt teach them to thy sons and thy grandsons. Deut. iv. 9.

Let thy mercy also come upon me, O Lord: thy salvation according to thy word. Ps. cxviii. 41.

So shall I answer them that reproach me in anything that I have trusted in thy words. Ver. 42.

And take not thou the word of truth utterly out of my mouth for in thy words, I have hoped exceedingly. Ver. 43.

So shall I always keep thy law, for ever and ever. Ver. 44.

Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my paths. Ver. 105.

The declaration of thy words giveth light: and giveth understanding to little ones. Ver. 130.

Direct my steps according to thy word: and let no iniquity have dominion over me. Ps. cxviii. 133. Covet ye therefore my words, and love them, you shall have instruction. Wisdom vi. 12.

Be meek to hear the word, that thou mayst understand and return a true answer with wisdom. Ecc'us. v. 13.

And as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and return no more thither, but soak the earth, and water it, and make it to spring, and give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: Isaias lv. 10.

So shall my word be, which shall go forth from my mouth: it shall not return to me void, but it shall do whatsoever I please, and shall prosper in the things for which I sent it. Isaias lv. 11.

WORLD.

By the envy of the devil death came into the world, and they follow him that are of his side. Wisdom ii. 24.

O ye sons of men, how long will you be dull of heart? why do you love vanity, and seek after lying? Ps. iv. 3.

I said in my heart: I will go and abound with delights, and enjoy good things. And I saw that

this also was vanity. Eccles. ii. 1.

Laughter I counted error, and to mirth I said, why art thou vainly deceived. Ver. 2.

Yea, and they have counted our life a pastime, and the business of life to be getting every way, even out of evil. Wisdom xv. 12.

Why do you spend money for that which is not bread, and your labour for that which doth not satisfy you? Hearken diligently to me, and eat that which is good, and your soul shall be delighted in fatness. Isaias lv. 2.

They trust in a mere nothing and speak vanities. Isaias lix. 4.

Thus saith the Lord: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, and let not the strong man glory in his strength, and let not the rich man glory in his riches. Jeremias ix. 23.

But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, for I am the Lord that exercise mercy, and judgment and justice in the earth; for these things please me, saith the Lord. Ver. 24.

Riches make many friends; but from the poor man, even they whom he had, depart. Prov. xix. 4.

Many honour the person of him that is mighty, and are friends of him that giveth gifts. Ver. 6. The brethren of the poor man hate him: moreover also his friends have departed far from him. Ver. 7.

YOUTH.

Eccles. xi. 10.
days of thy youth,

Youth and pleasure are vain. Remember thy creator in the before the time of affliction come, and the years draw nigh of which thou shalt say: They please me not. Eccles. xii. 1.

Being made perfect in a short space, he fulfilled a long time. Wisdom iv. 13.

For his soul pleased God: therefore he hastened to bring him out of the midst of iniquities: but the people see this, and understand not, nor lay up such things in their hearts. Ver. 14.

The just that is dead, condemneth the wicked that are living, and youth soon ended, the long life of the unjust. Ver. 16.

The things that thou hast not gathered in thy youth, how shalt thou find them in thy old age? Ecc'us.

xxv. 5.

Behold! I give him (Phinees) the peace of my covenant, and the covenant of the priesthood for ever shall be both to him and his seed, because he hath been zealous for his God. Numbers xxv. 12.

Elias answered: With zeal have I been zealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, they have thrown down thy altars, they have slain thy prophets and I alone am left, and they seek my life to take it away. 3 Kings

xix. 10.

My zeal hath made me pine away: because my enemies forgot thy words. Ps. cxviii. 139. I beheld the transgressors, and I pined away; because they kept not thy word. Ver. 158.

Whatsoever thy hand is able to do, do it earnestly. Eccles. ix. 10.

Linger not in the time of distress. Ecc'us x. 29.
