Better is a little to the just, than the great riches of the wicked. Ps. xxxvi. 16.

Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, than great treasures without content. Prov. xv. 16.

The life of a labourer that is content with what he hath shall be sweet, and in it thou shalt find a treasure. Ecc'us. xl. 18.

CONTENTION.

Let there be no quarrel, I beseech thee, between me and thee, and between my herdsmen and thy herdsmen for we are brethren. Genesis xiii. 8.

Among the proud there are always contentions. Prov.

xiii. 10.

He that studieth discords, loveth quarrels. Prov. xvii. 19.

The things which thy eyes have seen, utter not hastily in a quarrel: lest afterward thou mayest not be able to make amends, when thou hast dishonoured thy friend. Prov. xxv. 8.

He that boasteth, and puffeth up himself, stirreth up quarrels. Prov. xxviii. 25.

Refrain from strife, and thou shalt diminish thy sins. Ecc'us. xxviii. 10.

For a passionate man kindleth strife, and a sinful man will trouble his friends, and bring in debate in the midst of them that are at peace. Ver. 11.

In the quarrels of the proud is the shedding of blood and their cursing is a grievous hearing. Ecc'us. xxvii. 16.

CONVERSION.

Convert me, and I shall be converted: for thou art the Lord my God. Jeremias xxxi. 18.

Let us search our ways, and seek, and return to the Lord. Lamentations iii. 40.

And when thou shalt seek there the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him: yet so, if thou seek him with all thy heart, and all the affliction of thy soul. Deut. iv. 29.

Be converted therefore, ye sinners, and do justice before God, believing that he will shew his mercy to you. Tobias xiii. 8.

Turn away from evil and do good: seek after peace and pursue it. Ps. xxxiii. 15.

Delay not to be converted to the Lord, and defer it not from day to day. Ecc'us. v. 8.

Turn to the Lord, and forsake thy sins: Ver. 21. Return to the Lord, and turn away from thy injustice, and greatly hate abomination. Ver. 23.

And know the justices and judgments of God, and stand firm in the lot set before thee, and in prayer to the most high God. Ver. 24.

How great is the mercy of the Lord, and his forgiveness to them that turn to him. Ecc'us. xvii. 28.

To depart from iniquity is that which pleaseth the Lord, and to depart from injustice, is an entreaty for sins. Ecc'us. xxxv. 5.

And I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: because they shall return to me with their whole heart. Jeremias xxiv. 7.

Cast away from you all your transgressions, by which you have transgressed, and make to yourself a new heart, and a new spirit: and why will you die, O house of Israel? Ezechiel xviii. 31.

For I desire not the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God, return ye, and live. Ver. 32.

Treasures of wickedness shall profit nothing; but justice shall deliver from death. Prov. x. 2.

Incline my heart unto thy testimonies and not to covetousness. Ps. cxviii. 36.

Trust not in iniquity, and covet not robberies: if riches abound, set not your heart upon them. Ps. lxi. 11.

The ways of every covetous man destroy the souls of the possessors. Prov. i. 19.

He that gathereth treasures by a lying tongue, is vain and foolish, and shall stumble upon the snares of death. Prov. xxi. 6.

Lift not up thy eyes to riches which thou canst not have. Prov. xxiii. 5.

He that heapeth together riches by usury and loan, gathereth them for him that will be bountiful to the poor. Prov. xxviii. 8.

A covetous man shall not be satisfied with money; and he that loveth riches shall reap no fruit from them: so this also is vanity. Eccles. v. 9.

Let not thy hand be stretched out to receive, and shut when thou shouldest give. Ecc'us. iv. 36.

Set not thy heart upon unjust possessions. Ecc'us. v. 1.

Nothing is more wicked than the covetous man. Ecc'us. x. 9.

There is not a more wicked thing than to love money for such a one setteth even his own soul to sale because while he liveth he hath cast away his bowels. Ver. 10.

There is one that is enriched by living sparingly, and this is the portion of his reward. Ecc'us. xi. 18.

In that he saith: I have found me rest, and now I will eat of my goods alone: Ver. 19.

And he knoweth not what time shall pass, and that death approacheth, and that he must leave all to others, and shall die. Ver. 20.

He that gathereth together by wronging his own soul, gathereth for others, and another will squander away his goods in rioting. Ecc'us. xiv. 4.

The eye of the covetous man is insatiable in his portion of iniquity: he will not be satisfied till he consume his own soul, drying it up. Ver. 9.

He that loveth gold, shall not be justified; and he that followeth after corruption, shall be filled with it. Ecc'us. xxxi. 5.

Many have been brought to fall for gold, and the beauty thereof hath been their ruin. Ver. 6.

For the iniquity of his covetousness I was angry, and I struck him: I hid my face from thee, and was angry; and he went away wandering in his own heart. Isaias lvii. 17.

Wo to him that gathereth together an evil covetousness to his house, that his nest may be on high, and thinketh he may be delivered out of the hand of evil. Habacuc ii. 9.

Thou hast devised confusion to thy house, thou hast cut off many people, and thy soul hath sinned. Ver. 10.

DEATH.

In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread till thou return to the earth, out of which thou wast taken: for dust thou art, and into dust thou shalt return. Genesis iii. 19.
