DUTY OF CHILDREN, ETC.

For the great day of their wrath is come: and who shall be able to stand? Apoc. vi. 15—17.

And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead to be judged; and to render a reward to thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and to them that fear thy name, little and great; and to destroy them who have corrupted the earth. Apoc. xi. 18.

And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat upon it, from whose presence the earth and heaven fled away, and there was no place found for them.

And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne; and the books were opened and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged by those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

And the sea gave up the dead, that were in it: and death and hell gave up their dead, that were in them : and they were judged every one according to their works.

And hell and death were cast into the pool of fire. This is the second death.

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life, was cast into the pool of fire.

Apoc. xx.

11-15.

DUTY OF CHILDREN TOWARDS THEIR

PARENTS.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is just. Ephes. vi. 1.

Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is pleasing to the Lord. Col. iii. 20.

DUTY TOWARDS RULERS.

25

Honour thy father and thy mother, which is the first commandment with promise;

That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest be long lived upon earth. Ephes. vi. 2, 3.

DUTIES TOWARDS OUR NEIGHBOUR.

Render therefore to all their dues: tribute, to whom tribute is due: custom, to whom custom fear, to whom fear honour, to whom honour.

Owe no man anything, but that you love one another : for he that loveth his neighbour hath fulfilled the law.

The love of the neighbour worketh no evil. Love therefore is the fulfilling of the law. Rom. xiii. 7, 8, 10.

Little children, let no man deceive you. He that doeth justice, is just; as he also is just.

In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil. Whosoever is not just is not of God, nor is he that loveth not his brother.

My little children, let us not love in word, nor in tongue, but in deed, and in truth. 1 St. John iii. 7, 10, 18.

DUTY TOWARDS RULERS.

Let every soul be subject to higher powers: for there is no power but from God and those that are are ordained of God.

Therefore he that resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God; and they that resist, purchase to themselves damnation.

26

DUTY TOWARDS RULERS.

For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? Do that which is good: and thou shalt have praise from the same.

For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, fear: for he beareth not the sword in vain. For he is the minister of God, an avenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

Wherefore be subject of necessity, not only for wrath, but also for conscience' sake.

For therefore also you pay tribute: for they are the ministers of God, serving unto this purpose. Rom. xiii. 1-6.

Admonish them to be subject to princes, and powers. Titus iii. 1.

Obey your prelates, and be subject to them. Heb.

xiii. 17.

In like manner, ye young men, be subject to the ancients. 1 St. Pet. v. 5.

Be ye subject, therefore, to every human creature for God's sake; whether it be to the King, as excelling;

Or to governors, as sent by him for the punishment of evil doers, and for the praise of the good.

For so is the will of God, that by doing well, you may silence the ignorance of foolish men:

As free, and not as making liberty a cloak of malice, but as the servants of God.

Honour all men love the brotherhood: fear God: honour the King. 1 St. Pet. ii. 13-17.

DUTY OF WORK.

27

DUTY OF WORK.

Be not slothful.

Heb. vi. 12.

In solicitude not slothful; in spirit fervent: serving the Lord.

Provide things good not only in the sight of. God, but also in the sight of all men. Rom. xii. 11, 17. We labour, working with our hands. 1 Cor. iv.

12.

Use your endeavours to be quiet, that you do your own business, and work with your own hands, as we commanded you; and that you walk honestly towards them that are without; and that you want nothing of any man's. 1 Thess. iv. 11.

Neither did we eat any man's bread for nothing, but in labour and in toil working night and day, lest we should be burdensome to any of you.

Not as if we had not authority; but that we might give ourselves a pattern to you to imitate us.

For also, when we were with you, we declared this to you that if any man will not work, neither let him eat.

For we have heard that there are some among you who walk disorderly, working not at all, but curiously meddling.

Now we charge them that are such, and beseech them by the Lord Jesus Christ, that working with silence, they would eat their own bread. 2 Thess. iii. 8-12.

Working with his hand that which is good, that he may have to give to him who is in need. Ephes. iv. 28.

EXHORTATION TO PRIESTS.

EXHORTATION TO MASTERS.

Masters, do to your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that you also have a master in heaven. Col. iv. 1.

Forbearing threatening: knowing that the Lord both of them and you is in heaven: and there is no respect of persons with him. Ephes. vi. 9.

EXHORTATION TO PARENTS.

Fathers, provoke not your children to anger: but bring them up in the discipline and correction of the Lord. Ephes. vi. 4.

Fathers, provoke not your children to anger; lest they be discouraged. Col. iii. 21.

EXHORTATION TO PRIESTS.

But thou, O man of God, pursue justice, piety, faith, charity, patience, meekness:

Fight the good fight of faith: lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art called, and hast confessed a good confession before many witnesses.

Keep the commandment without spot, blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Tim. vi. 11, 12, 14.

Giving no offence to any one, that our ministry be not blamed.

But in all things let us exhibit ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in tribulation, in necessities, in distresses,

In stripes, in prisons, in seditions, in labours, in watchings, in fastings,
