The fruit of the Spirit is, charity, joy, peace, patience, benignity, goodness, longanimity,

Mildness, faith, modesty, continency, chastity. Gal. v. 25, 22, 23.

He that saith he abideth in him, ought himself to walk even as he walked.

And now, little children, abide in him; that when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be confounded by him at his coming. 1 St. John ii. 6, 28.

Whosoever abideth in him, sinneth not.

And he that keepeth his commandments, abideth in him, and he in him: and in this we know that he abideth in us, from the Spirit which he hath given us. 1 St. John iii. 6, 24.

You are of God, little children, and have overcome him (Antichrist); because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abideth in us, and his charity is perfected in us.

By this we know that we abide in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit:

He that abideth in charity, abideth in God, and God in him.

In this is the charity of God perfected with us; that we may have confidence in the day of judgment : because as he is, we also are in this world. 1 St. John iv. 4-17.

He that hath the Son, hath life: he that hath not the Son, hath not life. 1 St. John v. 12.

CHURCH MISSION OF ITS PASTORS.

CHURCH MISSION OF ITS PASTORS.

How can they preach unless they be sent ? as it is written: How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, of them that bring glad tidings of good things! Rom. x. 15.

And he (Jesus) commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is he who hath been appointed by God to be the Judge of the living and of the dead. Acts x. 42.

For God, indeed, was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not imputing to them their sins: and he hath placed in us the word of reconciliation.

We are, therefore, ambassadors for Christ, God as it were exhorting by us. For Christ we beseech you, be ye reconciled to God. 2 Cor. v. 19, 20.

But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. Acts vi. 4.

For we are God's coadjutors: you are God's husbandry; you are God's building. 1 Cor. iii. 9.

Let a man so look upon us as the ministers of Christ, and the dispensers of the mysteries of God. 1 Cor. iv. 1.

What I forgave, if I have forgiven anything, for your sakes have I done it in the person of Christ. 2 Cor. ii. 10.

(You) Received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. Gal. iv. 14.

CHURCH DUTIES OF THE FAITHFUL.

CHURCH DUTIES OF THE FAITHFUL.

Let him who is instructed in the word, communicate to him who instructeth him, in all good things. Gal. vi. 6.

If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great matter if we reap your carnal things?

So also the Lord ordained that they who preached the Gospel, should live of the Gospel. 1 Cor. ix. 14. You have done well, in communicating to my tribulation.

Not that I seek the gift: but I seek the fruit that may abound to your account;

The things you sent, an odour of sweetness, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God. Phil. iv.

14-18.

Nevertheless, whereunto we are already arrived, that we be of the same mind, let us also continue in the same rule. Phil. iii. 16.

Careful to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

One body, and one spirit; as you are called in one hope of your vocation.

One Lord, one faith, one baptism.

One God and Father of all, who is above all; and through all, and in us all. Eph. iv. 3-6.

And we beseech you, brethren, to know them who labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you,

That you esteem them more abundantly in charity for their work: have peace with them. 1 Thess. v. 12, 13.

Let the priests who rule well be esteemed worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 1 Tim. v. 17.

Remember your prelates, who have spoken to you the Word of God; considering well the end of their conversation, imitate their faith.

Obey your prelates, and be subject to them. For they watch as being to render an account of your souls, that they may do this with joy, and not with grief: for this is not expedient for you. Heb. xiii. 7, 17.

Is any man sick among you? Let him bring in the priests of the Church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil, in the name of the Lord:

And the prayer of faith shall save the sick man ; and the Lord shall raise him up: and if he be in sins, they shall be forgiven him. St. James v. 14, 15.

COMMANDMENTS.

Not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. Rom. ii. 13. Now the end of the commandment is charity from a pure heart, and a good conscience, and an unfeigned faith. 1 Tim. i. 5.

And in this we do know that we have known him,* if we keep his commandments.

He that saith he knoweth him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

But whosoever keepeth his word, the charity of God is truly perfect in him; and by this we know that we are in him. 1 St. John ii. 3—5.

And whatsoever we shall ask, we shall receive of him because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

And this is his commandment: that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ; and love one another, as he hath given commandment unto us. 1 St. John iii. 22, 23.

For this is the charity of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not heavy. 1 St. John v. 3.

CONTENT.

Having food, and wherewith to be covered, with these we are content. 1 Tim. vi. 8.

For I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, to be content therewith.

I know both how to be brought low, and I know how to abound: (everywhere, and in all things I am instructed,) both to be full, and to be hungry; both to abound, and to suffer need. Phil. iv. 11, 12.

Let your manners be without covetousness, contented with such things as you have: for he hath said: I will not leave thee, neither will I forsake thee. Heb. xiii. 5.

CONTENTION.

(God) is not the God of dissension, but of peace. 1 Cor. xiv. 33.

Contend not in words: for it is to no profit. 2 Tim. ii. 14.
