For I know that there dwelleth not in me, that is to say, in my flesh, that which is good. Rom. vii.

18.

They who are according to the flesh, relish the things that are of the flesh but they who are according to the Spirit, mind the things which are of the Spirit:

And they who are in the flesh, cannot please God.

For if you live according to the flesh, you shall die: but if by the Spirit you mortify the deeds of the flesh, you shall live. Rom. viii. 5-13.

The sensual man* perceiveth not the things that are of the Spirit of God: for it is foolishness to him, and he cannot understand: because it is spiritually examined. 1 Cor. ii. 14.

Whereas there is among you envying and contention, are you not carnal, and walk according to man? 1 Cor. iii. 3.

Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lusts of the flesh.

They who are Christ's have crucified their flesh, with the vices and concupiscences. Gal. v. 16-24.

The flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are contrary one to another so that you do not the things that you would.

* The sensual man is either he who is taken up with sensual pleasures, with carnal and worldly affections, or he who measureth Divine mysteries by natural reason, sense, and human wisdom only. Now such a man has little or no notion of the things of God.

CHARITY TOWARDS OUR NEIGHBOUR.

Now the works of the flesh are manifest: which are, fornication, uncleanness, immodesty, luxury,

Idolatry, witchcraft, enmities, contentions, emulations, wrath, quarrels, dissensions, sects,

Envy, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; of the which I foretell you as I have foretold to you, that they who do such things shall not obtain the kingdom of God. Gal. v. 17-21.

What things a man shall sow, those also shall he reap. For he that soweth in his flesh, of the flesh also shall reap corruption: but he that soweth in the Spirit, of the Spirit shall reap life everlasting. Gal. vi. 8.

CHARITY TOWARDS OUR NEIGHBOUR.

But before all things have a mutual charity among yourselves; for charity covereth a multitude of sins. 1 St. Pet. iv. 8.

Now concerning fraternal charity, we have no need to write to you: for yourselves have learned of God to love one another.

But we entreat you, brethren, that you abound 1 Thess. iv. 9, 10.

Loving one another with brotherly love; in honour preventing one another. Rom. xii. 10.

Owe no man anything, but that you love one another for he that loveth his neighbour hath fulfilled the law.

therefore, is the fulfilling of the law. Rom. xiii. 8-10.

Now, we that are stronger, ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let every one of you please his neighbour for his good, unto edification.

For Christ did not please himself. Rom. xv. 1—3. Let no man seek his own, but that which is for the welfare of another.

Not seeking that which is profitable to myself, but to many; that they may be saved. 1 Cor. x. 24, 33.

By charity of the Spirit serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one sentence: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Gal. v. 13, 14. Bear ye one another's burdens; and so shall you fulfil the law of Christ. Gal. vi. 2.

And be ye kind one to another, even as God hath forgiven you in Christ. Ephes. iv. 32.

Be ye therefore followers of God, as most dear children.

And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath delivered himself for us, an oblation and a sacrifice to God, for an odour of sweetness. Ephes. v.

He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is no scandal in him. 1 St. John ii. 10.

For this is the declaration, which you have heard from the beginning, that you should love one another. We know that we have passed from death to life : because we love the brethren.

In this we have known the charity of God, because he hath laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

My little children, let us not love in word, nor in tongue, but in deed, and in truth.

He that confesseth the Son, hath the Father also. 1 St. John ii. 23.

CHRIST OUR LIFE.

13

You are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

And if Christ be in you: the body indeed is dead because of sin, but the spirit liveth because of justification.

And if the Spirit of Him, who raised up Jesus from the dead, dwell in you, He that raised up Jesus Christ from the dead, shall quicken also your mortal bodies, because of his Spirit dwelling in you.

For whosoever are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

And if sons, heirs also: heirs indeed of God, and joint heirs with Christ: yet so if we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him. Rom. viii. 9-17.

But he who adheres to the Lord, is one spirit. 1 Cor. vi. 17.

Now the Lord is a spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2 Cor. iii. 17.

That I may live to God; with Christ I am nailed to the cross.

And I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me. And that I live now in the flesh: I live in the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered himself for me. Gal. ii. 19, 20.

Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall live also together with Christ. Rom. vi. 8.

There is neither Jew nor Greek: there is neither bond nor free: there is neither male nor female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. Gal. iii. 28.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
