And he thought within himself, saying: What shall I do, because I have not where to lay up together my fruits? Ver. 17.

And he said: This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and will build greater; and into them will I gather all things that are grown to me, and my goods. Ver. 18.

And I will say to my soul: Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years, take thy rest, eat, drink, make good cheer. Ver. 19.

But God said to him: Thou fool, this night do they require thy soul of thee: and whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? Ver. 20.

So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God. Ver. 21.

Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Ver. 34.

And I say to you: Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of iniquity; that when you shall fail, they may receive you into everlasting dwellings. St. Luke xvi. 9.

He that is faithful in that which is least, is faithful in that which is greater: and he that is unjust in that which is little, is unjust also in that which is greater. Ver. 10.

If then you have not been faithful in the unjust mammon, who will trust you with that which is the true? Ver. 11.

And Abraham said to him: Son, remember that thou didst receive good things in thy lifetime, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now, he is comforted, and thou art tormented. Ver. 25.

Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his justice. St. Matt. vi. 33.

Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction; and many there are who go in thereat. St. Matt. vii. 13.

How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way, that leadeth to life; and few there are who find it! Ver. 14.

But one thing is necessary.

SELF-DELUSION.

Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doeth the will of my Father, who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. St. Matt. vii. 21.

Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name, and in thy name cast out devils, and done many wonderful works in thy name? Ver. 22.

And then will I profess unto them: I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity. Ver. 23.

Therefore, whosoever heareth these my words, and doeth them, shall be likened to a wise man, who built his house upon a rock. Ver. 24.

And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded upon a rock. Ver. 25.

And every one that heareth these my words, and doeth them not, shall be like a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand. Ver. 26.

Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not extinguished. Ver. 43.

And if thy foot scandalize thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter lame into life everlasting, than, having two feet, to be cast into the hell of unquenchable fire: Ver. 44.

And if thy eye scandalize thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee with one eye to enter into the kingdom of God, than, having two eyes, to be cast into the hell of fire: Ver. 46.

Amen, amen I say to you: That whosoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin. St. John viii. 34.

Now the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth for ever. Ver. 35.

If, therefore, the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed. Ver. 36.

SINGLENESS OF INTENTION.

Take heed that you do not your justice before men, that you may be seen by them: otherwise you shall not have a reward from your Father, who is in heaven. St. Matt. vi. 1.

But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: Ver. 3.
