Or how sayest thou to thy brother: Let me cast a mote out of thy eye; and behold a beam is in thy own eye? Ver. 4.

Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thy own eye, and then shalt thou see to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. Ver. 5.

Wo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; who pay tithes of mint, and anise, and cummin, and have let alone the weightier things of the law, judgment, and mercy, and faith. These things you ought to have done, and not to leave those others undone. St. Matt. xxiii. 23.

Wo to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because you are like to whited sepulchres, which outwardly appear to men beautiful, but within are full of dead men's bones, and all filthiness: Ver. 27.

So you also outwardly indeed appear to men just: but within you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. Ver. 28.

You serpents, generation of vipers, how will you escape the judgment of hell? Ver. 33.

Well did Isaias prophesy of you, hypocrites, as it is written: This people honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. St. Mark vii. 6.

And why call you me Lord, Lord; and do not the things which I say? ? St. Luke vi. 46.

He shall appoint his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matt. xxiv. 51.

You are they who justify yourselves before men: but God knoweth your hearts; for that which is high to men is an abomination before God. St. Luke xvi. 15.

Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. St. Luke xii. 1.

For there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed nor hidden, that shall not be known. Ver. 2.

For whatsoever things you have spoken in darkness, shall be published in the light: and that which you have spoken in the ear in the chambers, shall be proclaimed on the housetops. Ver. 3.

Beware of the Scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love salutations in the market-place, and the first chairs in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts: St. Luke xx. 46.

Who devour the houses of widows, feigning long prayer. These shall receive greater damnation. Ver. 47.

another and the glory which is from God alone, you do not seek? St. John v. 44.

Every one that doeth evil, hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, that his works may not be reproved. St. John iii. 20.

He that doeth truth, cometh to the light, that his works may be made manifest, because they are done in God. Ver. 21.

JESUS OUR SAVIOUR.

The Orient, from on high, hath visited us: St. Luke i. 78.

To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death: to direct our feet into the way of peace. Ver. 79.

And in his name the Gentiles shall hope. St. Matt. xii. 21.

For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. St. Luke xix. 10.

Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world: he that followeth me walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life. St. John viii. 12.

I the light am come into the world; that whosoever believeth in me may not remain in darkness. St. John xii. 46.

I am the door. If any one enter by me he shall be saved and he shall go in, and go out, and shall find pasture. St. John x. 9.

These things I have spoken to you; that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be filled. St. John

You now, indeed, have sorrow, but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice: and your joy no man shall take from you. St. John xvi. 22.

Hitherto you have not asked any thing in my name. Ask and you shall receive; that your joy may be full. Ver. 24.

Judge not, that you may not be judged. St. Matt.

KNOWLEDGE OF GOD WITHOUT
OBEDIENCE.

That servant who knew the will of his lord, and hath not prepared, and did not according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. St. Luke xii. 47.

But he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. And unto whomsoever much is given, of him much shall be required and to whom they have committed much, of him they will demand the more. Ver. 48.
