Take heed that you do not your justice1 before men, you may be seen by them: otherwise you shall not have a reward from your Father, who is in heaven. St. Matt. vi. 1.

Therefore, when thou doest an alms-deed, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be honoured by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward. Ver. 2.

But when thou doest an alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: Ver. 3.

That thy alms may be in secret, and thy Father, who seeth in secret, will repay thee. Ver. 4.

And there came a certain poor widow, and she cast in two mites, which make a farthing. Ver. 42.

And calling his disciples together, he saith to them: Amen I say to you, this poor widow hath cast in more than all they who have cast into the treasury. Ver. 43.

For they all did cast in of their abundance: but she, of her want, cast in all she had, even her whole living. Ver. 44.

He that hath two coats, let him give to him that hath none and he that hath meat, let him do in like manner. St. Luke iii. 11.

Give alms; and behold all things are clean unto you. St. Luke xi. 41.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Ver. 34.

When the Son of man shall come in his majesty, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit upon the seat of his majesty. St. Matt. xxv. 31.

And all nations shall be gathered together before him: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats: Ver. 32.

And he shall set the sheep on his right hand: but the goats on the left. Ver. 33.

Then shall the King say to them that shall be on his right hand: Come, ye blessed of my Father, possess the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Ver. 34.

Then shall the just answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, and fed thee; thirsty, and gave thee drink? Ver. 37.

And when did we see thee a stranger, and took thee in, or naked and clothed thee? Ver. 38.

Or when did we see thee sick or in prison, and came to thee? Ver. 39.

And the King, answering, shall say to them: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me.

Ver. 40.

ANGER.

But I say to you, that whosoever is angry with his brother, shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: and whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. St. Matt. V. 22.

Therefore, if thou offerest thy gift at the altar, and there shalt remember that thy brother hath any thing against thee; Ver. 23.

Amen I say to thee, thou shalt not go out from thence, till thou pay the last farthing. Ver. 26.

CHARITY TOWARDS OUR NEIGHBOUR.

Jesus said to him: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind. St. Matt. xxii. 37.

This is the greatest and first commandment. Ver. 38.

And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Ver. 39.

On these two commandments dependeth the whole law and the prophets. Ver. 40.

As you would that men should do to you, do you also to them in like manner. St. Luke vi. 31.

And if you lend to them of whom you hope to receive, what thanks have you? for sinners also lend to sinners, for to receive as much. Ver. 34.

But love your enemies; do good and lend; hoping for nothing thereby and your reward shall be great, and you shall be the sons of the Most High: for he is kind to the unthankful, and to the evil. Ver. 35.

A new commandment I give unto you: that you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another. St. John xiii. 34.
