if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and the publican. Ver. 17.

COMMANDMENTS.

Whosoever, therefore, shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. St. Matt. v. 19.

If thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. St. Matt. xix. 17.

He saith to him: Which? And Jesus said: Thou shalt do no murder: Thou shalt not commit adultery: Thou shalt not steal: Thou shalt not bear false witness: Ver. 18.

Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Ver. 19.

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind. St. Matt. xxii. 37.

This is the greatest and first commandment. Ver. 38.

If you know these things, you shall be blessed if you do them. St. John xiii. 17.

Then Jesus said to those Jews that believed him: If you continue in my word, you shall be my disciples indeed; St. John viii. 31.

Amen, amen I say to you,

if any man keep my

word, he shall not see death for ever. Ver. 51.

My sheep hear my voice: and I know them and they follow me. St. John x. 28.

And I give them life everlasting: and they shall not perish for ever, and no man shall snatch them out of my hand. Ver. 28.

If you love me, keep my commandments. St. John xiv. 15.

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them; he it is that loveth me. And he that loveth me, shall be loved by my Father: manifest myself to him.

Jesus answered, and said to him: If any one love me, he will keep my word; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and will make our abode with him. Ver. 23.

If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love; as I also have kept my Father's commandments, and do remain in his love. St. John xv. 10.

This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you. Ver. 12.

Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ver. 13.

You are my friends, if you do the things that I command you. Ver. 14.

When you have done all the things that are commanded you, say: We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which we ought to do. St. Luke xvii. 10.

COVETOUSNESS.

Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth: where the rust, and the moth consume, and where thieves dig through, and steal. St. Matt. vi. 19.

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven;

where neither the rust nor the moth doth consume, and where thieves do not dig through, nor steal. Ver. 20.

For where thy treasure is, there is thy heart also. Ver. 21.

What doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or, what shall a man St. Matt. xvi. 26.

And he said to them: Take heed, and beware of all covetousness: for a man's life doth not consist in the abundance of things which he possesseth. St. Luke xii. 15.

And he spoke a similitude to them, saying: The land of a certain rich man brought forth plenty of fruits : Ver. 16.

And he thought within himself, saying: What shall I do, because I have not where to lay up together my fruits? Ver. 17.

And he said: This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and will build greater: and into them will I gather all things that are grown to me, and my goods. Ver. 18.

And I will say to my soul: Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years, take thy rest, eat, drink, make good cheer. Ver. 19.

But God said to him: Thou fool, this night do they require thy soul of thee: and whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? Ver. 20.

So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God. Ver. 21.

If then you have not been faithful in the unjust mammon, who will trust you with that which is the true? St. Luke xvi. 11.

DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD'S CALL.

You cannot serve God and mammon. Ver. 13.

Now the Pharisees, who were covetous, heard all these things; and they derided him. Ver. 14.

But Jesus said to him: A certain man made a great supper, and invited many. St. Luke xiv. 16. And he sent his servant at supper-time to say to them that were invited, that they should come, for now all things are ready. Ver. 17.

And another said: I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to try them: I pray thee, have me excused. Ver. 19.

And the servant returning told these things to his Lord. Then the master of the house being angry, said to his servant: Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city: and bring in hither the poor, and the feeble, and the blind, and the lame. Ver. 21.

And the servant said: Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. Ver. 22.

And the Lord said to the servant: Go out into the highways and hedges: and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. Ver. 23. But I say to you, that none called, shall taste my supper.

Good master, what shall I do that I may receive life everlasting? St. Mark x. 17.

Thou knowest the commandments: Do not commit adultery: do not kill: do not steal: bear not false witness: do not fraud: honour thy father and mother. Ver. 19.

But he answering, said to him: Master, all these things have I observed from my youth. Ver. 20.

And Jesus looking on him, loved him, and said to him: One thing is wanting unto thee: go, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor; and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come follow me. Ver. 21. But he being struck sad at the saying, went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Ver. 22.

DIVINE THREATENINGS.

Every tree, that yieldeth not 'good fruit, shall be cut down, and cast into the fire. St. Matt. iii. 10.

Even as cockle, therefore, is gathered up, and burnt with fire, so shall it be at the end of the world. St. Matt. xiii. 40.

The Son of man shall send his angels: and they shall gather out of his kingdom all scandals, and them that work iniquity; Ver. 41.

And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

So shall it be at the end of the world.

Ver. 42.

The angels shall go out, and shall separate the wicked from among the just; Ver. 49.

And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Ver. 50.
