Family response. For the Lord is good, and his mercy endureth for ever.

We thank thee that thou hast taught us that in every thing we should make known our requests by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving; we come, therefore, to ask of thee a blessing on the work of our hands this week ; if we have added to our store of knowledge, we pray that the enlargement of our minds may teach us the daily dependence of our intellects on thee, the Father of our spirits; if thou hast prospered us with the money which is a defence from anxiety, ignorance, and care, help us to use the world, which is thy own world, as not abusing it; and whatever may be our lot in life, and the varied pleasures and sorrows intermingled with that lot, help us Lord to glorify thee through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

Family response. Both now and ever vouchsafe to hear us, O Lord.

Again we supplicate thy mercy! Enter not into judgment with thy servants, for in thy sight shall no flesh living be justified! The burden, not of a day's, but of a week's imperfections is now upon us! How many things have we done that ought to have been left undone : how much have we left undone that we ought to have done. We have been ignorant and rash, where we ought to have been wise and prudent; we have been harsh and precipitate in our judgments when we ought to have been slow to anger and forbearing

in temper; we have forgotten our resolutions, our mercies, our professions; we have seen the good and approved it, but have followed the evil! And still thou hast been with us and thou hast not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities, and we are this night bending at thy mercy seat, thou God of love, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Family response. O Lord, have mercy upon us, and show us thy salvation.

And now, O Lord, we turn to thee! Shadow us with the wings of thy fatherhood another night. Give us calm, refreshing, and undisturbed rest. Be near us while we sleep, even as thou hast been through the week. May the thought of to-morrow be a help and a motive to us to live holily the remaining part of this day. With bodies rested, and minds clear and unruffled, may we present ourselves before thee in the morning, in the courts of thy house a living sacrifice, which is our reasonable service. There doth ou meet us and lift upon us the light of thy countenance, that nothing may be a weariness to us, but that our hearts and our voices may give thanks unto thee.

And these mercies we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour, in whose words we again unite, saying,

Our Father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in

earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation ; but deliver us from evil : for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. 'Amen.
