If on our daily course our mind
Be set to hallow all we find,

New treasures still of countless price,
God will provide for sacrifice.

Old friends, old scenes, will lovelier be,
As more of heaven in each we see;
Some softening gleam of love and prayer
Shall dawn on every cross and care.

PRAYER.

O Lord our God, how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee, and that confess thy name before the children of men; we will praise thy name for ever and ever, for thou art our help and our shield; unto thee, through Christ Jesus, will we render dominion and glory for ever and ever. Family response. For thy mercy endureth for

ever.

We bless thee for Jesus Christ, thy Son, who has revealed thee to us: who has taught us thy will in words such as man never spake; who having been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin, is able to succour us when we are tempted, and to deliver us from all our enemies; who died upon the cross the just for the unjust to reconcile us unto thee; who rose again for our justification, and now ever

dwells at thy right hand to give repentance and remission of sins.

Family response. For his sake, we beseech thee to hear us, O Lord.

By his agony and bloody sweat; by his cross and passion; by his precious death and burial; by his glorious resurrection and ascension; and by the promise of the Holy Ghost, we beseech thee to hear us, O Lord, and to save us from all blindness of heart ; from pride, glory, and hypocrisy; and from envy, hatred, and all uncharitableness.

Family response.

O Lamb of God, that taketh away the sins of the world, grant us thy peace.

We thank thee, O Father, for the gift of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ. We praise thee for the Holy Ghost promised to them who seek it. We confess how often we have grieved the Spirit, by resisting thy counsel against ourselves. Now may his influence rest afresh upon us. Now may he come and strengthen us with all might in our inner man. Now may he help us to begin this day with thee, and throughout the various engagements of the day may he be near us to sustain and strengthen us amidst all our weakness and perplexities.

Family response. We beseech thee to hear us, O

Lord.

We gratefully acknowledge thy care of us from our youth up thou, O our Father, hast condescended to our mean affairs; thou hast not deemed the way we

:

take beneath thy regard and guidance; and still thou dost seek our confidence, and invite us to trust in thee; we would do so with renewed determination this morning, and repose with childlike love on thy fatherly solicitude and wisdom.

Family response. For blessed are all they that trust in thee; and none of them that trust in thee shall be desolate.

O Lord our God, be very mindful of us this day : help us to walk in thy fear all the day long; we know we cannot direct our steps aright; frail, we look to thee for strength; ignorant, for wisdom; and as thy children for every needed good. Hold thou us up and we shall be safe: order our footsteps according to thy word, that we may ever be in a state of friendship with thee; help us to carry the thought of duty to thee into all our engagements, and thus we may have a conscience void of offence both towards thee and towards all men.

Family response. And unto thee, O Lord, will we continually give thanks.

Bless all this household; may those at its head be wise, considerate, and faithful; may the children be early trained for thee, and thus become thine; may the servants be ever remembered with kindness by us; and finally, may we all appear before thee redeemed by the blood of Jesus and saved with an everlasting salvation.

Family response. Now unto him that is able to

keep us from falling, and to present us faultless before the presence of his glory, with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and both now and ever. Amen.

power,

For Friday Evening.

SCRIPTURE.

Enter ye in at the strait gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be that go in thereat. Because strait is the gate and narrow is the way that leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared unto all men, teaching us, that denying ungodliness, and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world, looking for the blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God, and our Saviour Jesus Christ. Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people zealous of good works.

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law doth he meditate day and night. The ungodly shall not stand

in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of

the righteous.

Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace whereby we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and godly fear, for our God is a consuming fire.

HYMN.

Brethren, let us join to bless
Christ, our peace and righteousness;
Let our praise to him be given,
High at God's right hand in heaven!

Son of God, to thee we bow:
Thou art Lord, and only thou:
Thou, the woman's promised seed,
Thou, who didst for sinners bleed.

Thee, the angels ceaseless sing,
Thee we praise, our Priest and King.
Worthy is thy name of praise,
Full of glory, full of grace!

Thou hast the glad tidings brought,
Of salvation by thee wrought;
Wrought to set thy people free,
Wrought to bring our souls to thee.
