Fear him, ye saints; and you will then
Have nothing else to fear.

Make you his service your delight,
He'll make your wants his care.

PRAYER.

Eternal God, thou dwellest in the light which no man can approach, where thousands and thousands minister unto thee, who excel in strength and hearken ever to thy will; yet dost thou dwell with the humble and contrite, and hast invited us to seek thee, and to worship at thy mercy seat.

Family response. We beseech thee to hear us, O Lord.

We have laid ourselves down and slept; thou hast sustained us during the hours of darkness, and wakened us with the returning light of another day; our voice of thankfulness shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will we direct our prayer unto thee, and look up; for our help cometh from the Lord who made heaven and earth.

Family response. Mercifully hear us when we call upon thee, O Lord.

Thou, O Lord, searchest the heart, and triest the reins of the children of men; our bending knees, and our solemn words cannot deceive thee, if truth be not found in our inward parts; thou understandest our

thoughts and purposes, and compassest our path, and our lying down, and art acquainted with all our ways; we beseech thee to keep us from mocking thee; help us to be thoughtful and reverent in thy presence; may we strive against a listless and wandering frame of mind; may we worship thee in spirit and in truth, and be accepted in Jesus Christ our Lord and Mediator.

Family response. O God, make clean our hearts

within us.

We would this morning call upon our souls to renew their confidence in thee, our Father in heaven; we thy children depend wholly upon thee for all needed wisdom, grace, and strength; our eyes are up unto thee, and our expectation is from thee; we come to repeat our daily prayer for thy help, that we may be strong to resist temptation; wise to discharge our duty; conscientious in all our relations; and active and vigorous in all that we undertake.

Family response. We beseech thee to hear us, O

Lord.

When we rise from our knees and separate to our different callings, we pray thee to be near us and to be mindful of us all the day; may we be so delivered from all selfishness that we may be willing at all times to serve one another in love; may nothing be deemed a trouble that is a duty; under thine eye alone may we seek the good of all heartily and Christianly; may we never despise the young, the feeble, or the ignorant,

but may we try to imitate him who, amidst all his own sorrows, went about doing good.

Family response. Both now and ever vouchsafe to hear us, O Lord.

We beseech thee, if it be thy will, to prosper this day all our mental or our manual toil; may we so labour for the meat that perisheth, that the good things of thy kingdom may also be added to us; if we are prosperous may we be joyful in thee, and if thou dost allow our purposes and plans to be overturned, may we learn to manifest a wise and quiet submission and in all things approve ourselves to thee as thy obedient children.

Family response. And unto thee will we give

thanks for evermore.

And now, O Father, we cast ourselves afresh upon the love that is unchangeable, and upon that care which has followed us all our days; we present ourselves before thee in the Saviour's name, and in him, through thy spirit, having acceptance with thee as our Father, we pray to be heard and answered, for thy mercy's sake.

Family response. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

For Chursday Evening.

SCRIPTURE.

O praise the Lord all ye nations; praise him all ye people. For his merciful kindness is great towards us; and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever. Praise ye the Lord. No man can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore, I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life better than meat and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature ? And why take ye thought for raiment. Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not neither do they spin; and yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore if God so clothe the grass of the field which to-day is and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, what shall we eat? or

what shall we drink? or wherewithal shall we be clothed? (for after all these things the gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Take, therefore, no thought for the morrow for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.

Sufficient unto the day is the

evil thereof.

HYMN.

Let us now with one accord,
Join to bless our common Lord;
While the angels praise him now,
Let us at his footstool bow.

Praise him for his early youth,
Bright example of the truth;
To his father's mother's will,
Yielding glad obedience still.

Praise him that his mighty voice,
Bid the waking dead rejoice;

Reached the leper-made him whole,

Saved the sorrow-stricken soul.

Praise him for his wondrous death,
When he yielded up his breath,
Then was full atonement made,
And a world's free ransom paid.
