holily, godly, and righteously in this present evil world.

Family response.

O Lord.

We beseech thee to hear us,

And, finally, we pray thee to accept and bless us; to deliver us from the enmity and evil power of our spiritual foes; to guide us by thy counsel through this perilous world, and when we have done thy will and endured the needful discipline of life, receive us for Christ's sake to thy kingdom and glory.

Family response. For of thee, and through thee, and to thee are all things, and the glory shall be thine for ever and ever. Amen.

For Sunday Evening.

SCRIPTURE.

Bless the Lord, O our souls, and all that is within us bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O our souls, and forget not all his benefits, who forgiveth all our iniquities; who healeth all our diseases; who redeemeth our life from destruction; who crowneth us with loving-kindness and tender mercies; who satisfieth our mouth with good things; so that our youth is renewed like the eagle's. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and plenteous in mercy. He

will not always chide, neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame, he remembereth that we are dust. The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; to such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.

HYMN.

"GOD IS LIGHT."

Eternal light! eternal light!

How pure that soul must be

When placed within thy searching sight,
It shrinks not, but, with calm delight,
Can live, and look on thee.

The spirits that surround thy throne,
May bear the burning bliss,

But that is surely their's alone-
For they have never, never known

A fallen world like this.

O! how shall I, whose native sphere

Is dark-whose mind is dim-
Before the Ineffable appear,

And on my naked spirit bear
That uncreated beam?

There is a way for man to rise
To that sublime abode,—
An offering, and a sacrifice,—
A Holy Spirit's energies,—
An advocate with God.

These these prepare us for the sight
Of Majesty above-

The sons of ignorance and night
Can stand in the "Eternal Light,"
Through the "Eternal Love."

PRAYER.

Almighty and everlasting God, we thank thee for this thy day, and for thy words which we have just read, with which we desire to close our religious service and worship. From thee, O God, all good things come down to us, and we pray now, in the name of Jesus Christ, that we may ever have the will to please thee, and the power to obey thee, so that we may not receive the grace of God in vain.

Family response. And show us thy salvation, and take not thy Holy Spirit from us.

Thou knowest our frame and rememberest that we are but dust; and therefore to thee is known all the weakness and sin connected with the engagements of this day; and thou knowest how often when our spirits are willing our flesh is weak to continue in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving; but do thou save us from wilfully grieving thy Holy Spirit by turning from thee and thy good word, which alone is able to save us.

Family response. And enter not into judgment with thy servants, for in thy sight shall no flesh living be justified.

And now this night, O Lord our God, be with us each and all who dwell together here, and with every one we love who may be at a distance from us, and grant that we may all lie down and sleep in peace and in safety because of thy love and care; and when we awake in the morning may our first thoughts be good, and wise, and holy thoughts, and thus may we be prepared to do or to endure thy will, O our heavenly Father.

And these mercies we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, who has taught us to say, (here the whole family join,)

Our Father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into

B

temptation; but deliver us from evil: for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

For Monday Morning.

SCRIPTURE.

O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength, because of thine enemies; that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. When I consider the heavens, the work of thy fingers; the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; what is man, that thou art mindful of him, and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands: thou hast put all things under his feet. All sheep, and oxen, yea and the beasts of the field; the fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the seas. O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up: that whosoever believeth in him, should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that
