For Sunday Morning.

SCRIPTURE.

GLORY to God in the highest: on earth peace;

good-will towards men!

Praise ye the Lord; sing

unto the Lord a new song.

His praise is in the con

gregation of saints. For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people, he will beautify the meek with salvation. Let the saints be joyful in glory. Let the high praises of God be in their mouths. All thy works praise thee, O Lord, and thy saints shall bless thee.

Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed on us, that we should be called the sons of God; because thy loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live, I will lift up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips. Whom have I in heaven but thee, and there is none on earth that I desire besides thee. I am continually with thee; thou hast holden me by my right hand; in the multitude of my thoughts within me, thy comforts delight my soul. Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel and afterwards receive me into glory. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth, my flesh also shall rest in hope; for thou shalt show me the path of life.

HYMN.

Glad was my heart to hear
My old companions say,
Come, in the house of God appear,
For 'tis a holy day.

Our willing feet shall stand
Within the temple door;

While young and old in many a band
Shall crowd the sacred floor.

Thither the tribes repair,

Where all are wont to meet,

And joyful in the house of prayer,

Bend at the mercy seat.

Pray for Jerusalem!

The city of our God!

The Lord in heaven be kind to them

That love the blest abode.

Within her walls may peace
And harmony be found:

Zion, in all thy palaces,
Prosperity abound!

For friends and brethren dear,

[blocks in formation]

PRAYER.

O God, our Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, hear us when we call upon thee, and have mercy upon us, for we are grievous sinners in thy sight.

Family response. We beseech thee to hear us,

O Lord.

We thank thee, O God, for the gift of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour, who for our sakes became Immanuel, God with us, and having assumed our nature was made a ransom for us; in his name we come unto thee, having no righteousness of our own, and pray that for his sake thou wouldst make us the children of God.

Family response.

O Lord.

We beseech thee to hear us,

We thank thee also, O God, for the gift of thy Holy Spirit whom thou hast promised to dwell within our hearts if we love thee, that he may lead us into all the Truth, and make us so like Jesus Christ that we may be willing to deny ourselves; may he come into our hearts and make us joyfully obedient to the will of Jesus Christ.

Family response.

O Lord.

We beseech thee to hear us,

We thank thee for the return of this peaceful and holy day; we forsake gladly our usual toil and duties that we may worship thee in the sanctuary; we bless

thee that our lot is cast in a Christian country, and that the Lord is known amongst us as our help and our shield; and we humbly pray that we may be sincere and reverential in our worship of thy great name wherever this day we engage in that worship.

Family response. We beseech thee to hear us,

O Lord.

We thank thee, O God our heavenly Father, that the sacrifices most acceptable to thee, are the sacrifices we can so easily, and would so gladly bring,-the sacrifices of a broken and a contrite heart: we bring these now and beseech thee, O thou that desirest truth in the inward parts, to look upon us and save us with thy great salvation.

Family response.

O Lord.

We beseech thee to hear us,

And now we pray, O Lord, that thou wouldst bless us throughout the engagements of this day of rest; when we unite with the great congregation in worshipping thee, may our worship be earnest and spiritual; during the intervals of public worship may our family and social intercourse refresh and strengthen our minds after the excitement of the week; may nothing this day be a task or a weariness to us, to our children, or to our servants, but may we all find religion's ways to be ways of pleasantness, and her paths paths of peace.

Family response.

O Lord.

We beseech thee to hear us,

We beseech thee, O Lord, to bless all Christian ministers, and send upon them the influence of thy Holy Spirit to lead them into all the truth, and especially do we ask this for our own minister, from whom we hope to hear thy word; and we earnestly pray that the time may soon come when all Christians may be united in Jesus Christ, the head of thy Church, and walk before the world in catholic unity and love.

Family response. We beseech thee to hear us,

O Lord.

We confess before thee the sins and follies of the past week with true penitence; O God thou knowest our foolishness and our sins are not hid from thee; but because thou art our Father, more willing to forgive us, than we are to return to thee, and because our Saviour Jesus Christ died to reconcile us to thee, we come humbly but boldly to thee for the forgiveness of all our sins, that we may have peace with thee now and for ever, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Family response.

O Lord.

We beseech thee to hear us,

Keep us, O Lord our heavenly Father, for thou knowest the weakness of thy children, to watch against all temptations and to resist them through the might and spirit of our Saviour, who himself was tempted in all points like as we are; let no allurements to sinful pleasures withdraw us from our duty to thee or to others, but in all things may we be enabled to live
