The Relations and Duties of Free Colored Men in America to Africa: A Letter to Charles B. Dunbar ...Press of Case, Lockwood, 1861 - 54 стор. In Alexander Crummell's essay "The Relations and Duties of Free Colored Men in America to Africa," he explains his view of Pan-Africanism (what would become Black Nationalism) and urges African Americans to travel to Africa to aid their African brethren. He gives a description of the type of man who would be successful as missionaries in Africa as men with "high souls and lofty resolves ... of force and energy," but most of all, they should be men with "strong moral proclivities." This socio-political tract represents many of Crummell's beliefs that would inspire a whole generation of African American writers to come after him, whether in their agreement and disagreement with his views. |
