1 FATHER in heaven, Thy ceaseless love Has brought us to this holy day; Blest with Thy kindness from above, Another week has passed away.
2 Grant us, O Lord, a grateful heart To feel Thy goodness and obey: Ne'er may we from Thy love depart, Ne'er may we leave Thy heavenly way. 3 Grant us this day a willing mind To learn what Thou would'st have us do, And how we may Thy favour find, And love and serve each other too.
4 Thy happy children may we live, Thy happy children may we die; To all, O God, our Father, give A home of peace above the sky.
Sabbath Worship.
LORD, we come before Thee now, At Thy feet we humbly bow; O! do not our suit disdain; Shall we seek Thee, Lord, in vain ?
2 Lord, on Thee our souls depend, In compassion now descend;
Fill our hearts with heavenly grace, Tune our lips to sing Thy praise.
3 In Thine own appointed way, Now we seek Thee,-here we stay; Lord, from hence we would not go, Till a blessing Thou bestow. 4 Send some message from Thy word, That may joy and peace afford; Let Thy Spirit now impart
Full salvation to each heart,
ORD, how delightful 'tis to see A whole assembly worship Thee; At once they sing, at once they pray; They hear of heaven, and learn the way. 2 I have been there, and still would go, 'Tis like a little heaven below: Not all my pleasure, nor my play, Shall tempt me to forget this day. 3 0 write upon my memory, Lord, The texts and doctrines of Thy word; That I may break Thy laws no more. But love Thee better than before.
4 With thoughts of Christ, and things divine, Fill up this foolish heart of mine; That hoping pardon through His blood, I may lie down, and wake with God.
Sabbath Afternoon.
1 JESUS, we love to meet,
We worship round Thy seat,
On this Thy holy day.
Thou tender, heavenly Friend, To Thee our prayers ascend, O'er our young spirits bend,
On this Thy holy day.
2 We dare not trifle now,
On this Thy holy day.
Check every wandering thought, And let us all be taught, To serve Thee as we ought,
On this Thy holy day.
Bless all that we have heard,
Go with us when we part, And to each youthful heart Thy saving grace impart,
On this Thy holy day.
Sabbath Evening.
THE day of rest is pass'd away, The shades of evening fall; Jesus, in parting we would pray- Shed down Thy peace on all.
2 That last bequest to Thy loved sheep, Redeemed from Satan's thrall,
Design'd their hearts and minds to keep, pour that peace on all !
3 Give every burdened spirit rest, Each wandering heart recall, Receive the contrite to Thy breast, And shed Thy peace on ali.
4 On Thy kind arm may we repose, Nor ills, nor fears forestall; Enough, if through life's cares and woes, Thy peace enshrine us all.
5 The storms of life will soon be o'er- Why should they then appal?
The land is nigh where Christ shall pour Eternal peace on all.
IV. THE SUNDAY SCHOOL.
ASSEMBLED in our school once more,
Lord, Thy blessing we implore;
We meet to read and sing and pray, Grant us Thy presence through the day. 2 Our fervent prayer to Thee ascends, For parents, teachers, foes, and friends; And when we in Thy house appear, Help us to worship in Thy fear.
3 And when on earth we meet no more, May we above to glory soar;
And praise Thy love in nobler strains, Where one eternal sabbath reigns.
HOLY Saviour! Thou hast told us,
When we meet to hear of Thee, With Thy love Thou wilt behold us, And amongst us Thou wilt be.
2 Lord of hosts! to seek Thy blessing, We are gathered here to-day : Help us, all our sins confessing; Saviour, teach us how to pray. 3 May the words we hear direct us How to learn and do Thy will; May Thy Spirit's aid protect us, And with faith our bosoms fill !
4 Grant that we may love each other, Mindful of Thy holy word,
"He that loveth not his brother, Surely cannot love the Lord."
Happiness of Wisdom.
1 HOW happy is the child, who hears Instruction's warning voice,
And who celestial wisdom makes His early, only choice.
2 For she has treasures greater far Then east or west unfold;
And her rewards more precious are Than all their stores of gold.
