The Wonderful Book.

C.M. GREAT God! with wonder and with praise

On all Thy works I look ;

But still Thy wisdom, power, and grace,

Shine brightest in Thy Book.
2 The stars, that in their courses roll,

Have much instruction given ;
But Thy_good Word informs my soul

How I may rise to heaven.
3 The fields provide me food, and show

The goodness of the Lord;
But fruits of life and glory grow

In Thy most holy Word.
4 Here may I learn how Christ has died,

My sinful soul to save;
Not all the books on earth beside,

C.M. i This blessed day once more returns,

A day of rest and peace;
From worldly labours, cares, and thoughts,

We would devoutly cease.
2 Let higher cares and higher joys

Our noblest powers employ;
Cares which prepare our souls for heaven,

For joys without alloy.
3 Let rich and poor, let old and young,

To God's own house repair,
Join with one heart and mind and soul,

In holy praise and prayer.
4 Rejoice, ye children, who are taught

To fear and serve the Lord,
To call his Sabbath a delight,

WELCOME, welcome, quiet morning!

Welcome, is this Holy day!
Now the Sabbath morn returning,

Says a week has passed away.

Let me think how time is passing.;

Soon the longest life departs ; Nothing human is abiding,

Save the love of human hearts. 2 Father! now one prayer I raise Thee;

Give an humble, grateful heart;
Never let me cease to praise Thee,

Never from Thy fear depart.
Then when years have gathered o'er me,

And the world is sunk in shade,
Heaven's bright realm will rise before me,

True Worship.

L.M. 1 WHEN to the house of God we go,

To hear His word, and sing His love;
We ought to worship Him below,

As saints and angels do above.
2 They stand before His presence now,

And praise Him better far than we;
Who only at His footstool bow,

And love Him whom we cannot see.
3 But God is present every where,

And watches all our thoughts and ways;
He marks who humbly join in prayer,

And who sincerely sing His praise.
4 The triflers, too, His eye can see,

Who only seem to take a part;
They move the lip, and bend the knee,

But do not seek Him with the heart.
5 O may we never trifle so,

Nor lose the days our God has given;
But learn, by Sabbaths here below,
To spend eternity in heaven.
