Praise Him above, ye heavenly

host : Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. 217. Evening Hymn.

C.M. 1 from the altar of

Let incense flames arise;
Assist me, Lord, to offer up

My evening sacrifice.
2 Awake, my love, awake, my joy,

Awake, my heart and tongue :
Sleep not: when mercies loudly call,

Break forth into a song.
3 This day God was my sun and shield,

My keeper and my guide;
His care was on my frailty shown,

His mercies multiplied.
4 Minutes and mercies multiplied,

Have made up all this day :
Minutes came quick; but mercies were

More fleet and free than they.
5 New time, new favour, and new joys,

Do a new song require :
Till I shall praise Thee as I should,

Accept my heart's desire.
6 Lord of my time, whose hand this day

Has added to my store,
Thee shall I praise for all my time,

When time shall be no more.

Daily Mercies.

My God, how endless is Thy love!

Thy gifts are every evening new,
And morning mercies from above

Gently distil, like early dew.
2 Thou spreadst the curtains of the night,

Great Guardian of my sleeping hours !
Thy sovereign word restores the light,

And quickens all my drowsy powers.
3 I yield my powers to Thy command;

To Thee I consecrate my days;
Perpetual blessings from Thy hand
Demand perpetual songs of praise.

V. LIFE – ITS DUTIES, ETC. 219. The Pure in Heart.

BLEST are the pure in heart,

For they shall see our God;
The secret of the Lord is theirs,

Their soul is His abode.
2 Still to the lowly soul

He doth Himself impart;
And for His temple and His throne

Chooseth the pure in heart. 220. The Pillar of Fire and of Cloud. L.M.D. 1 WHEN Israel, of the Lord beloved,

Out from the land of bondage came,

Her father's God before her moved,
An awful guide in smoke and flame.
By day along the astonished lands
The cloudy pillar glided slow;
By night, Arabia's crimsoned sands

Returned the fiery column's glow.
2 Thus present still, though now unseen,

When brightly shines the prosperous day,
Be thoughts of Thee a cloudy screen,
To temper the deceitful ray!
And 0 ? when gathers on our path
In shade and storm the frequent night,
Be Thou, long-suffering, slow to wrath,

A burning and a shining light. 221.

Heavenly Joy on Earth. S.M. 1 COME ye that love the Lord,

And let your joys be known ;
Join in a song with sweet accord,

And thus surround His throne. 2 The sorrows of the mind

Be banished from this place ;
Religion never was designed

To make our pleasures less. 3 The awful God is ours,

Our Father and our love;
He shall send down His heavenly powers,

To carry us above.

4 There shall we see His face,

And never, never sin;
There, from the rivers of His grace,

Drink endless pleasures in. ö Yes, and before we rise

To that immortal state,
The thoughts of such amazing bliss

Should constant joy create. 6 Then let our songs abound,

And every tear be dry;
We're marching through Immanuel's ground,

To fairer worlds on high. 222

Grateful Review of Life. C.M. 1 WHEN all Thy mercies, O my God,

My rising soul surveys,
Transported with the view, I'm lost

In wonder, love, and praise.
2 Unnumbered comforts to soul

Thy tender care bestowed,
Before my infant heart conceived

From whom those comforts flowed.

3 When in the slippery paths of youth,

With heedless steps I ran,
Thy arm unseen conveyed me safe,

And led me up to man.

4 When worn with sickness, oft hast Thou

With health renewed my face;
And when in sin and sorrow sunk,

Revived my soul with grace.
5 Ten thousand thousand precious gifts

My daily thanks employ;
Nor is the least a cheerful heart

That tastes those gifts with joy. 6 Through every period of

Thy goodness I'll pursue ;
And after death, in distant worlds,

The glorious theme renew. 223.

"Walk in the Light." C.M. 1 WALK in the light! so shalt thou know

That fellowship of love,
His Spirit only can bestow,

Who reigns in light above.
2 Walk in the light ! and sin abhorr’d,

Shall ne'er defile again ;
The blood of Jesus Christ our Lord,

Shall cleanse from every stain.
3 Walk in the light! and thou shalt find

Thy heart made truly His,
Who dwells in cloudless light enshrin'd,

In whom no darkness is.
