We here present to our friends another view of our friend Theophilus South's favourite Welch River. It is no wonder that the Angler should love such a scene.

EPSOM: ON STARTING RACE-HORSES.

To the Editor of the New Sporting Magazine.
DEAR SIR,

MAY I beg to offer a few hints as to a few improvements on this much frequented race course.

There is certainly no place in the kingdom, that can boast of its thousands, as can Epsom, at its great annual meeting; bringing together, as by a charm, nearly all the beauty, nobility, and wealth of this great empire. I therefore would suggest one or two alterations in its future arrangements; which, I think, would tend to the pleasure and benefit of all parties. The first is, that I would have the horses saddled in front of the grand stand, instead of in the neighbourhood of the starting post. They might then be walked quietly down to the starting post at the bottom of the hill. The horses might just as well be unclothed and saddled on the fine expanse of the course, as walk about the hollow for three quarters of an hour, as is the practice at
