ENGLISH VERSE.

1

FOR REPETITION.

WITH NOTES INTENDED FOR YOUNG BOYS,

BY

THE REV. W. BEDELL STANFORD, M.A.,

HEAD MASTER OF THE COLLEGE SCHOOL, GLOUCESTER.

SEELEY, JACKSON, AND HALLIDAY, FLEET STREET,

2805

LONDON.

MDCCCLXXIII.

f103

[blocks in formation]

THE lesson should be (1) read over by the boys alone with the notes; (2) read again in class, and questions asked on the notes, and other points that occur; and (3) then, and not till then, learnt by heart. The more closely the sentences are parsed, as a Latin lesson would be, the better. Lastly, attention to the stops in reading and saying is everything, and the only cure for 'sing-song.'

Thanks are due to Messrs. Longman and Co. for leave to use Nos. 45 and 46; to Messrs. Macmillan, for 48; and to Messrs. Strahan, for 49 and 50.
