A Study of Archeology

Передня обкладинка
Southern Illinois University Press, 1967 - 262 стор.
Prompted by the need for a conceptual scheme of archeological research, A Study of Archeology deals with the development of the science from many diverse interests and the consequent confusion in its theoretical structure, aims, and relationships with other disciplines. The author has wisely avoided trying to create a rigidly contrived (and therefore unworkable) system for gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing archeological materials. Instead, he has concentrated on both destructive and constructive criticism, synthesizing from the two of them a single theory of archeology. Mr. Taylor labels his theory the "conjunctive approach," and he explains it carefully and illustratively as basic to valid cultural study. Professional archeologists and scholars in related fields will find that the book compels self-analysis, and its clarity of style and purpose makes it readily assimilative for general readers.--Cover
