CONDITIONS OF SALE.

I. THE highest bidder to be the buyer; and if any question arise between bidders, the lot so disputed shall be immediately put up again, provided the auctioneer cannot decide the said dispute.

II. The purchasers to give in their names and residences, and to make a deposit, if required, in part-payment of the purchasemoney; in default of which, the lot or lots purchased to be immediately put up again and resold.

III. The lots to be taken away at the buyer's expense, within. three days after the conclusion of the sale, and the remainder of the purchase-money to be paid previous to the delivery of the goods.

IV. Upon failure to comply with the above conditions, any money that may have been deposited will be forfeited, and all goods not removed within the time named may be resold by public or private sale, on account of the purchaser, and any deficiency occurring at such resale to be made good by the said purchaser.

V. The books are presumed to be perfect, unless otherwise ex

pressed. All notices of imperfections must be made within a week from the last day of sale. No allowance will be made for stained, soiled, or short leaves.

VI. To prevent inaccuracy in delivery, and inconvenience in the settlement of the purchases, no lot can, on any account, be delivered during the sale.

Gentlemen who cannot attend the sale may have their purchases faithfully executed by the auctioneers, at a charge of five per cent. on the amount of bills.

Private Sale, the Large and Valuable Collection of Books forming the Library of HENRY B.
HUMPHREY, Esq., of this city.

This fine collection comprises nearly 4,000 separate works, over 11,000 volumes. It has
been selected with great care, at every favorable opportunity, during the past twenty years
and at an expense of nearly $75,000. It is very rich in Works, relating to, or illustrative
of the Fine Arts, Natural History, Numismatics, Collections of Voyages and Travels, Biblio-
graphy, General Literature, Rare Books, Large Paper Copies, Periodicals, chiefly complete
