DAKIN & COMPANY, TEA MERCHANTS.

"ALL WHO HAVE MONEY TO LAY OUT ARE SURE TO PURCHASE WHERE THEY CAN OBTAIN THE GOODS THE BEST AND CHEAPEST."

It is on this principle alone that the

UNPRECEDENTED

public favor and patronage that have attended the endeavours of DAKIN and COMPANY can be accounted for. Little more than twelve months have elapsed since they opened NUMBER ONE, SAINT PAUL'S CHURCHYARD, asserting they would make it the interest of all who wanted

GOOD AND PURE TEAS

to purchase from them. During that short time they have been encouraged by that steadily increasing success which always attends every undertaking carried out on liberal principles, and having for its object public as well as private advantage.

But as the increase of patronage which has been bestowed upon DAKIN and COMPANY is attributable solely to the superior excellence of their Teas, it is only by continuing to

KEEP UP THEIR SUPERIOR EXCELLENCE

that they can hope for additional support, and annexed are the prices of a few sorts particularly adapted for general consumption :

Each of these Teas gives great and general satisfaction.

Fine full-flavoured Black Tea at 4s. per lb.

Full Pekoe and Souchong-flavoured Tea at 4s. 4d. per lb.

The finest true rich Congou at 4s. 6d. per lb., which is an old-fashioned fine Tea, such as the East India Company used to bring over.

All the rare Teas imported at equally moderate prices.

COFFEES,

from 10d. to 2s. per lb. Coffee, mellow in ripeness and richness of flavour, at 1s. 8d. per pound, or 12 lbs. of this choice old coffee for one sovereign.

Important as Coffee has become in domestic economy, it behoves all to study where they can obtain this article,

AS WELL AS TEA, THE BEST AND CHEAPEST.

Those who, being themselves consumers and judges, are acquainted with the virtues of Coffee, have united in recommending that sold by DAKIN and COMPANY; but as real goodness is neither benefited by praise nor injured by reproach, so the popularity which their Coffees enjoy is attributable solely to their intrinsic excellence.

It now only remains, in conclusion, to observe, that those who wish to obtain good and pure Teas on liberal terms must

PURCHASE FROM A DIRECT SOURCE OF SUPPLY,

and that DAKIN and COMPANY, being themselves Tea Merchants, are in immediate communication both with the growers of Teas in China, and the consumers of Teas in England.

All orders sent by post will receive the greatest care and attention, if accompanied by a respectable reference or a Post-office order, and will be forwarded Carriage Free.

All purchasers will be allowed 1 lb. on every 30 lb. as overweight.

The visitors to London are fearlessly assured that they may save a considerable portion of their railway expenses by purchasing their Teas and Coffees

AT NUMBER ONE, SAINT PAUL'S CHURCHYARD, which is in the very centre of England's Metropolis, and a position more easily identified than any in

LONDON.

SPECIAL NOTICE.-In order more effectually to place within the reach of those resident in the country the same advantages in the purchasing of Teas, Coffees, &c., as those possessed by the London Consumers, DAKIN and COMPANY have resolved on appointing

AGENTS IN EVERY TOWN IN ENGLAND,

for the sale of their superior Teas and Coffees, the excellences of which are already too well known for them to require any eulogium here. Communications from parties wishing to take up the Agency will receive prompt attention, and as DAKIN and COMPANY contemplate effecting the necessary arrangements without delay they would suggest an early application.

Twenty-four Years in the Argentine Re

public. Embracing the Author's Personal Adventures, with the Civil and Military History of the Country, and an Account of its Political Condition, before and during the administration of Governor Rosas; his course of policy; the causes and character of his interference with the Government of Monte Video, and the circumstances which led to the interposition of England and France. By Col. J. Anthony King, an Officer in the Army of the Republic, and Twenty-four Years a Resident in the Country.

8vo. 14s.

'At the present moment, when public attention is fixed upon the naval, military, and political transactions which are taking place in the River Plate, this volume will be read with avidity; for besides embracing the author's personal adventures, which are somewhat romantic, it contains the best account we have seen of the civil and military history of the Argentine Republic, of the character of Rosas, his policy, &c. &c. It contains many curious details relating to the infamous Massoica club, the ferocious character of Rosas, Governor Francia, together with lively and amusing anecdotes illustrative of the manners and customs of the people, and some tales of intrigue and suffering which would serve for the novelist."-JOHN BULL.

"Who loves to read of sieges, battles, imprisonments, persecutions, and escapes; of revolutions and of governments established and overturned; and of the manners of strange people, lending a further variety to the narrative; here he will find them all almost as thickly sown as there are pages in the volume. The hero and relater thereof is a native of New York, from which, in 1817, he ran off, when a boy of fourteen years of age, and, after a few rather stern and instructive adventures in the endeavour to procure a livelihood, entered the service of the Argentine Republic, and fought his way through the bloody struggles of their South American provinces (the Argentine, Bauda, Oriental, Bolivia, Uraguay, &c. &c.) to the rank affixed to his name in the title page."-LITERARY GAZETTE.

Life of Lord Eldon.

"Another welcome addition to the literature of law, of late so much enriched. There is no weighty pretence to the higher honours of biography in these volumes, but they are extremely lively, entertaining, and interesting. And perhaps this is as much as biography of this kind should lay claim to be. The anecdotical, gossiping form of the narrative shews chiefly in the individual traits and personal adventures of the men. There is, perhaps, something fairly to interest the looker-on at any successful effort, by whatever resource the goal be won; and in the familiar, almost dramatic variety of these amusing volumes, the reader finds himself as one looking on.

"We may remark of Mr. Townsend's Life of Erskine, that it is the most careful and complete account we have yet had of this most accomplished advocate. It is written with strong sympathy for the subject, and is full of that fascinating interest which belonged to both the weakness and the strength of Erskine. The lives of Lords Stowell and Eldon deserve also to be ranked with it for amusing and original detail."-Examiner. "The book is agreeable and interesting; partly from the character of Mr. Townsend's mind, which, though not very keen or elevated, is exceedingly well adapted to the gossip of biography or of legal lore; partly from the nature of his subjects. With such excellent subjects, and ample materials to his hand, and with his professional esprit de corps, Mr. Townsend could scarcely fail in producing a pleasant and useful book for the world at large, and an interesting work for the lawyer or law student."-SPECTATOR.

"Mr. Townsend's style is perspicuous, easy and correct; his judgment seldom at fault; his industry in collecting from scattered sources every thing that can illustrate the career, the character, or the merits of the individual whose mind he is tracing, indefatigable; and his skill in weaving into one connected narrative, anecdotes, fragments of grave law arguments and of parliamentary speeches, little touches of domestic history, and amusing personal traits, quite remarkable."-JOHN BULL.

"Mr. Townsend has made a most judicious use of the ample materials which his professional connections have enabled him to collect; he has evidently gone to his task con amore, and the result is the production of a most agreeable and interesting work for general perusal, as well as an instructive book for the lawyer and law-student. These memoirs not only bring before us, with vivid and life-like reality, the peculiarities and distinguishing attributes of those "master spirits" whom they are intended to delineate, but the stirring events of the times in which they lived, the party struggles of the reign of George the Third, necessarily form a portion of the incidents in which they were engaged; and thus the historical transactions and social manners of a remarkable era are intermingled with their biography in a graphic and entertaining manner. The criticisms and reflections with which the narrative are interspersed are of an intelligent and independent character, evincing sound principle, discriminating acumen, and good sense. These volumes cannot fail to extend the literary reputation of Mr. Townsend; while, as a source of much pleasant gossip, characteristic anecdote, legal lore, and useful information, they will meet with a ready welcome from all classess of readers."
