ΜΑΝΝΑ.

"They said one to another, It is manna."-ExOD. xvi. 15.

BY THE REV. CHARLES B. TAYLer.

ON all Thy goodness gives, Oh, gracious Lord!
Food, raiment, money, give me grace to see,
The superscription of this sacred word,
Stamping the gift, as coming fresh from Thee.
For Thou hast taught Thy loving child to be
Simply dependent on Thy guardian care
For all Thy blessings bountiful and free.

And Thou, my Saviour, in Thy wondrous prayer,
Hast taught Thy meek disciple thus to pray
For bread, like manna, to the pilgrim given,

A daily portion on his desert way,

Sufficient for the day, and fresh from heaven :

Thus, "It is manna," I would also say,

With praise for every gift Thou givest day by day.

"There arose," we are told, "a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves." It is added, It is added, "but He was asleep." Had He purposely brought His disciples into the midst of danger, and did He need to be awakened to save them? All was foreseen by Him, who is at once the wisdom of God, and the power of God,-whose name is Love, and
