Still he loves the earth he leaves;
Tho'returning to his throne,
Still he calls the world his own;
Still for us he intercedes,
Prevalent his death he pleads;
Next himself prepares our place,
Harbinger of human race.
3. Mafter (may we ever fay)
Taken from our head to-day;
See thy faithful servant, fee,
Ever gazing up to thee!

Grant, tho' parted from our fight;
High above yon azure height,-
Grant our hearts may thither rise,
Foll'wing thee beyond the fkies,
4. Ever upward let us move,
Wafted on the wings of love,
Looking when our Lord fhall come,
Longing, gasping after home;
There we fhall with thee remain,
Patners of thine endless reign,

There thy face unclouded fee,

Find our heaven of heav'ns in thee.

The Spirit's Farewel to the Body after long Sickness.
HOW am I held a prisoner now,

Far from my God! This mortal chain
Binds me to forrow; all below

Is fhort-liv'd ease or tiresome pain.
When fhall that wonderous hour appear,
Which frees me from this dark abode,
To live at large in regions, where

Then fhall it better ferve ay foul

In works of praife and worlds unknown.

The departing Moment; er, abfent from the body.
ABSENT from flefh! O blissful thought!
What unknown joy this moment brings !
Freed from the mifchiefs fin hath wrought,
From pains, and tears, and all their fprings.
Abfent from flefh! Illuftrious day!
Surprifing fcene! triumphant ftroke,
That rends the prifon of my clay,
And I can feel my fetters broke.
Abfent from flefh! Then rife, my foul,
Where feet nor wings could never climb,
Beyond the heavens where planets roll,
Measuring the cares and joys of time.

His prefence makes eternal day: My all that's mortal I refign,

For Uriel waits and points my way.

Entrance into Paradife; or,prefent with the Lord.
AND is this heaven? and am I there!
How fhort the road! how fwift the fligh
I am all life, all eye, all ear;

tace!

Thy death procur'd this bleft abode,
Thy vital beams adorn the place.
Lo, he prefents me at the throne

All fpotlefs there the god head reigns Sublime and peaceful thro' the Son:

Awake, ny voice, in heavenly strains.

The Sight of God in Heaven.
CREATOR-GOD, eternal light,
Fountain of good, tremendous power,
Ocean of wonders, blifsful fight!
Beauty and love unknown before!
Thy grace, thy nature all unknown
In yon dark region whence I came ;
Where languid glimpfes from thy throne,
And feeble whispers teach thy name.
I'm in a world where all is new;

Myfelf, my God; O bleft amaze!
Not my best hopes or wishes knew
To form a fhadow of this grace.
Fix'd on my God, my heart, adore;

My reftlafs thoughts, forbear to rove,

Ye meaner paffions, ftir no more,

But all my powers be joy and love.
