2127 PYRARD OF LAVAL. Voyage to the East Indies, Maldives, Moluccas, and Brazil (1601-11), translated and edited by Albert Gray, assisted by H. C. P. Bell, with maps and illustrations, 2 vols. in 3, 8vo, cloth (Hakluyt Society). 1887-90 £1 10s François Pyrard was wrecked on one of the Maldives in July, 1602, and remained in the islands till 1607, when he, with some of his surviving companions, succeeded in getting away. He afterwards visited Minicoy, the Laccadives, Calicut, Cochin, and Goa, which, as well as the islands, he describes most fully. 2128 JAMES. The Dangerous Voyage of Capt. THOMAS JAMES in his Intended Discovery of a N.-W. Passage into the South Sea [Edited by Rev. Wm. Watts], with map, second edition, 8vo, calf (scarce). 1740 £2 Capt. James sailed all round Hudson's Bay in 1631-32. The first edition of his Journal, dedicated to Charles I., by whose commaud the voyage was made, was published in 1633.

"The miseries indured, going, wintering, returning," render James's voyage "the most remarkable and perilous ever undertaken from which any considerable number of those engaged have escaped to tell the tale."
