Lt. Gen. Welsh, born 1775, died 1861; went to India in 1790 and returned in 1828, publishing 2 vols. of Reminiscences' in 1830. He went out again Sept., 1836, remaining two years, 1837-39, when he revisited England and remained four years. His last period of service in India was from March, 1845, to the end of 1847.

This volume contains orders, confidential letters, and correspondence on matters of discipline, &c., with map showing positions and distances of the military stations, dated chiefly from Waltair, Madras, relating to the native army and regimental business in the Northern Division of the Madras Presidency. The last letter is in relation to claims from the Military Fund, and is dated Ootacamund, July 22, 1847.
