MANUSCRIPTS, &c.

This Beautiful Manuscript rolls on a Mahogany Roller, with very large and elegant SILVER handles, or ends, curiously formed and finely chased; the handles about six inches in length. 5212 Another Manuscript of the same book of the Holy Scriptures, most beautifully written in the Original Hebrew, on FINE VELLUM, and supposed to be of great Antiquity, measuring in length eleven feet and three quarters, by about four inches and a half broad. This beautiful Manuscript rolls up, and is furnished with a Massy and exceedingly fine solid SILVER case, most curiously wrought, and richly chased, 10. 10s.

It would perhaps be difficult to do complete justice to the fineness of the execution of the two rolls last mentioned. The Ink seems considerably more a substance than that used at the present time. It is also very fine and glossy. The Tagin or Coronce are frequently used, and both the MSS. may seem to vie with, if not to excel as to regularity &c., the finest Printing. In beauty of execution they are both doubtless much superior to print. 5213 Another Manuscript, also the Megilloth, or book of Esther, neatly written on vellum, in compartments, singularly and rudely ornamented between each, in several colours-eleven feet in length, and about seven inches in breadth, said to be a Barbary Roll; on a Mahogany Roller, 31. 3s.

N. B. The present catalogue has been delayed longer than was designed, with an intention to have united with it an ADDENDA of very recent purchases, both at home and abroad, containing many choice and interesting works of great rarity and value. But it was found that to get this part through the Press, though now ready for printing, would cause so much further delay, that it is at present designed to publish the same as an Addenda, or additional Part, exactly three months from the commencement of the present year, 1822.
