Lord! let our souls be fed !
And as we round Thy Table kneel
Help us Thy quickening grace to feel!
Be thou, O Holy Spirit, nigh!
Accept the humble prayer,
The contrite soul's repentant sigh,
The sinner's heartfelt tear!
And let our adoration rise,

As fragrant incense to the skies! Amen.

SEE, He comes! Whom every nation
Taught of God, desired to see,
Fill'd with hope and expectation

That He would their Saviour be.
See, He comes! Whom kings and sages
Prophets, patriarchs of old,
Distant climes and countless ages
Waited eager to behold.

See the Lamb of God appearing,
God of God, from Heaven above!
See the Heavenly Bridegroom cheering
His dear Bride with words of love!

Sing, O sing with exultation,

Haste we to our Father's home; Peace, Redemption, Joy, Salvation,

Now from Heaven to Earth are come!

15

HARK! a thrilling voice is sounding;
'Christ is nigh,' it seems to say;
Cast away the works of darkness,
'O ye children of the day.'

Startled by the solemn warning,

Let the earth-bound soul arise; Christ, our Sun, all clouds dispelling, Shines upon the morning skies.

Once the Lamb, so long expected,
Came in great humility;
Once again behold He cometh
Robed in dreadful majesty.

Hark! a thrilling voice is sounding;
'Christ is nigh,' it seems to say;
'Cast away the works of darkness,
'O ye children of the day.'

LORD, who didst the Prophets teach
To prepare Thy way of old;
And by Thy Apostles preach
Truths of wisdom manifold;

Teach us to behold Thee, Lord,
Present in the Sacred Page,
Living Word in Written Word;
Coming thus to every age.
Blessed Lord, whenever we
On Thy Holy Scriptures look,
May we truly worship Thee,
Speaking in Thy sacred Book!

So, when as a scroll is past

Heaven, and Earth with all its strife, May we see our names at last

Written in the Book of Life !-Amen.

17

LORD, Thy Word abideth, and our footsteps guideth;

Who its truth believeth, light and joy receiveth. When our foes are near us, then Thy Word doth cheer us,

Word of consolation, message of salvation.

When the storms are o'er us, and dark clouds before us,

Then its light directeth, and our way protecteth. Who can tell the pleasure, who recount the treasure,

By Thy Word imparted to the simple hearted? Word of mercy, giving succour to the living; Word of life, supplying comfort to the dying! Oh that we discerning its most holy learning, Lord, may love and fear Thee, evermore be near Thee!-Amen.

HARK! what mean those holy voices
Sweetly sounding through the skies?
Lo! the angelic host rejoices,

Heavenly hallelujahs rise!

Listen to the wondrous story

Which they chant in hymns of joy: "Glory in the highest, glory!

Glory be to God most high!

"Peace on earth, and sin forgiven,
"We to erring man proclaim;
"Christ is born, the Lord from heaven,

"Mortals, learn to bless His Name."

Father let Thy Holy Spirit

Fill us with the Saviour's love, And prepare us to inherit

Mansions in Thy House above.-Amen.

GOD the Son our Teacher is
Lying in the manger low,
Preaching there to all mankind
What is best for all to know.
God the Son who made the world
Deigns a little Child to be;
May we cast away all pride

And be lowly, Lord, like Thee!

God the Son our Nature takes,
Joining Man to Deity;
May we keep our bodies pure

And be holy, Lord, like Thee!
God the Son hath will'd us all
Members of Himself to be;
Make us seek each other's weal,

And be loving, Lord, like Thee !—Amen.

JESU, meek and gentle,
Son of God most high,
Pitying, loving Saviour,
Hear Thy children's cry.
Pardon our offences;
Loose our captive chains;
Break down every idol
Which our soul detains.

Give us holy freedom;
Fill our hearts with love;
Draw us, holy Jesus,
To the realms above.

Lead us on our journey;
Be Thyself the way
Through terrestrial darkness
To celestial day.

Jesu, meek and gentle,
Son of God most high,
Pitying, loving Saviour,

Hear Thy children's cry.-Amen.

How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds

In a believer's ear!

It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear.

It makes the wounded spirit whole,
And calms the troubled breast;
'Tis manna to the hungry soul,

And to the weary rest.

Dear Name! the rock on which I build,
My shield and hiding-place,
My never-failing treasury, filled

With boundless stores of grace.

Jesus! my Brother, Shepherd, Friend,
My Prophet, Priest, and King,
My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End,
Accept the praise I bring.
