PREFACE.

THIS guide is offered especially to that large class of holiday-makers who can spare but a week from business, and who, coming to London to spend that week, naturally desire to see as much as possible of the great city and its surroundings before returning home.

The directions here submitted to enable them to do this are given in unbroken sequence, so that each day's route may be pursued uninterruptedly; a short description of each place of interest is referred to, and can easily be found if desired. These descriptions have been given as briefly as possible, in order that they may be read on the ground. By this arrangement the visitor is not obliged to read matter which may possibly be of no interest to him, and which,
