Appointment of

AT an Ordinary Meeting of the Council of the Society Committee. of Arts, held on Wednesday the 19th of January last, the following minute was passed:

Resolved,-To appoint a Committee, to take into consideration, and to report how far and in what manner, the Society of Arts may aid in the promotion of such an education of the people as shall lead to a more general and systematic cultivation of arts, manufactures, and commerce-the chartered objects of the Society. Resolved, That the Committee do consist of the following members of Council: The Rev. Dr. Booth, Mr. Bell, Mr. Le Neve Foster, and Mr. Twining.

Your Committee-having carefully examined the questions submitted to them, having deliberately analyzed and weighed the large mass of evidence which they have had the honour to receive from endowed grammar schools, from private schools, from mechanics' institutions, from the friends of education of every grade, and especially from a considerable number of the leading manufacturers of the country; having considered the objections by which any proposal for a change in the existing state of things is usually met,-agreed to, and beg now to submit this their Report.
