EXODUS II. 3.

HE lay, where swells the wave of Mizraim's flood, Upon its borders, weeping and alone;

Where, towering towards heav'n, o'er-frowning stood

High pyramids of stone;

Nor were a mother's soft caresses there

Shed 'midst the solitude-to ease its care

And soothe the tender moan.

For here, her hands had of the bulrush made
An ark, to form the lovely infant's bed;
'Twas here, with hope, she sought kind nature's aid,
To guard her offspring's head,

:

From that sad doom, denounced by Egypt's laws:And now, her prayer ascends to Him, whose cause, She thus triumphant led!

For this was he whom heav'n would send, to free
The sons of Jacob from a heathen land-

Break off their galling chains of slavery;

And with a mighty hand
