Go, hearken to the billow's bound, Go, view when cloudless evenings rise, And beam sweet comfort through the night. Go, search earth's hollow caverns deep, Go, seek the valleys, deck'd with green, And shuns the rich, and scorns their gold. Go, view the mountain-peak of hoar, THE GOOD SHEPHERD. "And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one Shepherd." ST. JOHN. X. 16. THE Shepherd's seen In pastures green, While with them there From every snare His little flock to keep! When nights are cold, Within his fold, He pens the old, To shield them safe from harm; And 'tis his care, In safety there The lambs to bear, Upon his bosom warm. Ere Summer fades, 'Neath hawthorn shades He guards them while they sleep: And 'tis his care, The wolf to scare, And from each snare Protect, his chosen sheep. So in thy word We read, oh! Lord, Us help, when troubles roll; If thou art near, Our way to cheer? Thou Shepherd of the soul! When frown the skies When billows rise The seaman cries To THEE, to still the wind; If thou art near What need he fear? Thou Shepherd of mankind! Should terrors fall, Thy children all THE SOUL'S IMMORTALITY. Shall hear thy call; That thou wilt keep, When life shall sleep Then all thy sheep Shall know their Shepherd's voice! THE SOUL'S IMMORTALITY. "For this corruption must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality."-1 COR. XV. 53. Or what art thou, O Soul? awake, and tell Or everlasting woe, in torments, where Foul fiends of hell, their mighty powers employ, Who all thy load of guilt, didst freely bear, DEVOTION. WHEN at the throne of God we bend, Where reigns our great immortal head, He points us to those realms of light, Where dwell his own in robes divine; From Him, in whom all glories shine. E |
