Her father, Captain John Harris, entered the Army at the early age of 14 years, and served gallantly throughout the Peninsula and other campaigns under the Duke of Wellington, and remained with the 45th Regiment of Foot throughout the whole of his military career; he had seven brothers, also in the military profession, two of whom were killed in action.
