7.6.

Our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished
death.-2 Tim. 1. 10.

H! I shall soon be dying,
Time swiftly glides away;
But on my Lord relying,
I hail the happy day :

2 The day when I must enter
Upon a world unknown;
My helpless soul I venture
On Jesus Christ alone.

3 He once a spotless victim,
Upon Mount Calvary bled;
Jehovah did afflict Him,

stead.

And bruise Him in my
4 Hence all my hope arises,
Unworthy as I am:
My soul most surely prizes
The sin-atoning Lamb.

5 To Him by grace united,
I joy in Him alone;
And now, by faith, delighted,
Behold Him on His throne.

6 There He is interceding

For all who on Him rest:
The grace from Him proceedinTM,
Shall lead me to His breast.

7 Then with the saints in glory
The grateful song I'll raise,
And chant my blissful story
In high seraphic lays.

994 Shortly I must put off this my tabernacle.—2 Tet.

1. 14.

1 THE leaves around me falling Are preaching of decay;

The hollow winds are calling,

66

Come, pilgrim, come away;"
The day in night declining,
Says I too must decline;
The year is life resigning-
Its lot foreshadows mine.

2 The light my path surrounding,
The love to which I cling,
The hopes within me bounding,
The joys that round me sing —
All melt like stars of even
Before the morning's ray,
Pass upward into heaven,
And chide at my delay.

3 The friends gone there before me
Are calling from on high,
And joyous angels o'er me
Tempt sweetly to the sky.
"Why wait," they say, "and wither,
Mid scenes of death and sin?

O rise to glory hither,

And find true life begin!"

4 I hear the invitation,

And fain would rise and come,

A sinner to salvation;

An exile, to his home:
But while I here must linger,
Thus, thus let all I see
Point on with faithful finger,
To heaven, O Lord, and Thee.

995 Abide with me, for it is toward evening.—Luke

1

24. 29.

ABIDE with me, fast falls the eventide;

The darkness thickens: Lord, with me abide;

When other helpers fail, and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me; 2 Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day; Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see:

O Thou who changest not, abide with me! 3 Not a brief glance I beg, a passing word, But as Thou dwell'st with Thy disciples, Lord,Familiar, condescending, patient, free, Come not to sojourn, but abide with me; 4 Come not in terrors, as the King of kings, But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings; Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea; Come, Friend of sinners, thus abide with me. 5 I need Thy presence every passing hour,— What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power?

Who like Thyself my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me! 6 I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless : Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness Where is death's sting? where grave, thy victory?

I triumph still if Thou abide with me.

:

7 Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes, Shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies;

Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;

In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me!
