A most desirable copy of this interesting and valuable work. From the comprehensive nature of the author's plan, no publication is better adapted for presenting the effigies of the illustrious characters connected with the British Isles, whether Natives or Foreigners. The work consists of the following Classes :-I. Kings, Queens, Princes, Princesses, etc., of the Royal Family. II. Great Officers of State, and of the Household. III. Peers, and such Commoners as have titles of Peerage; namely, sons of Dukes, etc., and Irish Nobility. IV. Archbishops and Bishops, Dignitaries of the Church, and inferior Clergymen; also Nonconforming Divines, and Clergy of the Church of Rome. V. Commoners who have borne great employments; namely, Secretaries of State, Privy-Councillors, and Ambassadors, and such Members of the House of Commons as do not fall under other classes. VI. The above invaluable collection of authentic Portraits, executed in a masterly style, was made by Francis Clouet, generally known by his sobriquet of JANET.
