Food and Raiment.

Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto Matt. vi. 33.

you.

My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Phil. iv. 19.

Godliness with contentment is great gain. Who giveth us richly all things to enjoy. 1 Tim. vi. 6, 17.

III.-Particularly of Food and Raiment.

Of Food.-Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Psalm xxxvii. 3.

He hath given meat unto them that fear Him; He will ever be mindful of His covenant. Psalm cxi. 5. I will abundantly bless her provision, I will satisfy her poor with bread. Psalm cxxxii. 15.

He filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.

Psalm cxlvii. 14.

The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul. Prov. xiii. 25.

Behold the fowls of the air; for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Matt. vi. 26.

And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied.

Joel ii. 26. Behold, My servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: Behold, My servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty. Isaiah lxv. 13.

Raiment. I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. not the life more than meat, and the body than

raiment? Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall He not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore, take no thought, saying, what shall we eat? or what shall we drink? or wherewithal shall we be clothed? For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. Matt. vi. 25, 30-32.

IV.-Promises of Long Life and Health.

Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you; that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

Deut. v. 33.

That thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all His statutes and commandments, which I command thee; thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. Deut. vi. 2.

Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season. Job v. 26.

What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile; depart from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it.

Psalm xxxiv. 12-14. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation. Psalm xci. 16. Length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Length of days is in her [Wisdom's] right hand. Prov. iii. 2, 16.

By Me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased. Prov. ix. II.

The fear of the Lord prolongeth days.

Pr. x. 27.

Safety under Divine Protection.

Health.-Who forgiveth all thine iniquities, who healeth all thy diseases. Who redeemeth thy life from destruction. Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. Psalm ciii. 3-5.

Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. Prov. iii. 7, 8. They are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

Prov. iv. 22.

V.-Promises of Safety under the Divine Protection.

The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by Him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long. Deut. xxxiii. 12.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. Pr. xviii. 10. I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

He shall not be afraid of evil fixed, trusting in the Lord.

Psalm xvi. 8. tidings, his heart is Psalm cxii. 7.

And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?

I Peter iii. 13. Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?

Job iv. 7.

I will make with them a covenant of peace; and I will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land; and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods. And they shall no more be a prey to the heathen, neither shall the beast of the Íand devour them; but they shall dwell safely, and none shall make them afraid. Ezek. xxxix. 25, 28.

Thou shalt be secure, because there is hope.

Job xi. 18. Thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field; and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee. Job v. 23.

And in that day will I make a covenant for them, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground; and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely. Hosea ii. 18.

And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea: into your hand are they delivered. Gen. ix. 2.

Thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety. Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid. Job xi. 18, 19.

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep, for Thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety. Ps. iv. 8.

He giveth His beloved sleep. Psalm cxxvii. 2. When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid; yea, thou shalt lie down and thy sleep shall be sweet. Prov. iii. 24.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord: He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in Him will I trust. He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust: His truth shall be Thy shield and buckler. There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Psalm xci. I, 2, 4, IO.

Safety under Divine Protection.

He will keep the feet of His saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail. I Sam. ii. 9.

The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm xxvii. I.

He keepeth all his bones, not one of them is broken. Psalm xxxiv. 20.

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills; from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved, He that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, He that keepeth Israel, shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper, the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: He shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in, from this time forth, and even for evermore. Psalm cxxi. 1-8.

Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Psalm cxxiv. 8. As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about His people, from henceforth, even for ever. Psalm cxxv. 2.

Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. Prov. iii. 23.

And the Lord will create upon every dwelling place of Mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for upon all the glory shall be a defence. And there shall be a tabernacle, for a shadow in the day time from the heat, and for a place of refuge and for a covert from storm and from rain. Isaiah iv. 5, 6.
