O those who object to the hideousness of some of the facts in this book let it here be said that just such big, brutal facts enabled and persuaded Mr. Taft and Mr. Roosevelt (and their class) to protect their youthful sons against joining the Army and the Navy, where they would be befouled by the morally rotting influences made evident by these facts. Mr. Roosevelt and Mr. Taft-we may be sure-provided the mothers of their sons with inside information on these matters.

If, sometimes, in reading this book your cheeks redden with the shame of the facts, turn at once to pages 290 and 350.
