STEALING, ROBBERY, AND KINDRED EVILS ARE All ForCONDEMNED AS UNCHRISTIAN.

BIDDEN-

Thou shalt not steal.-Exodus xx. 15.

Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the Lord. Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.-Leviticus xix. 11-13.

Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.—Pro. xxviii. 24.

Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.—Proverbs xxx. 8, 9.

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.Matthew vii. 12.

And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of them that sold doves, and said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.-Matthew xxi. 12, 13.

And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.-Mark xv. 27.

Render therefore to all their dues : tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.—Rom. xiii. 7-9.

Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.-Ephesians iv. 28.

But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.-1 Peter iv. 15.

STRIFE, QUARRELLING, AND KINDRED EVILS ARE TO BE AVOIDED. THE OPPOSITE CONDUCT COMMENDED.

And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land. And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.-Genesis xiii. 7, 8.

Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar! My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace. I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.—Psalm cxx. 5-7. A soft_answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.--Proverbs xv. I.

Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.-Proverbs xvii. I.

Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth. As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire so is a contentious man to kindle strife.-Proverbs xxvi. 20, 21.

And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way? But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.—Mark ix. 33, 34.

Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.-Romans xiii. 13, 14.

For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men ?— I Corinthians iii. 3.

But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.—2 Timothy ii. 23.

Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again; not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.—Titus ii. 9, 10.

But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.-James iii. 14, 15.

SUN, MOON, AND STARS, INTERESTING AND INSTRUCTIVE. SUBJECTS, WELL WORTHY OF CONTEMPLATION.

And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.-Genesis i. 14-19.

And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.—Genesis xv. 5.

Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are !—Job xxii. 12.

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; what is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.—Psalm viii. 3-5.

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.— Psalm xix. 1-6.

He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.-Psalm cxlvii. 4, 5.

There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.—1 Corinthians xv. 41.

SWEARING, Profane, Rash Oaths, Filthy Words, all SiNS OF THE TONGUE TO BE AVOIDED BY CHRISTIANS.

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.— Exodus xx. 7.

And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the Lord.—Leviticus xix. 12.

I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue : I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me. -Psalm xxxix. 1.

But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.-Matthew v. 34-37.

But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod. Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask. And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.— Matthew xiv. 6-8.

But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.—Colossians iii. 8-10.

But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?—James iii. 8-11.

And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; and delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked.—2 Peter ii. 6, 7.

"TAKE HEED "-WORDS OF WARNING AND FAITHFUL ADMONITION TO MANY PARTIES.

And Moses and the priests of the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of the Lord thy God. Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the Lord thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.-Deut. xxvii. 9, 10.

And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do for ye judge not for man, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment. Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.—2 Chronicles xix. 6, 7.

But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Take ye heed, watch and pray for ye know not when the time is.Mark xiii. 32, 33.

The light of the body is the eye therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.—Luke xi. 34, 35.

And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness : for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.—Luke xii. 15.

According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.-1 Corinthians iii. 10, II.

Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.-1 Corinthians x. II, 12.

And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.—Colossians iv. 17.

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.-Hebrews iii. 12, 13.
