Then the People All fitting down, and filent, He fhall read the Second Leffon out of the New Teftament, as is appointed for the Day in the Table of Leffons, unless for fome extraordinary Occafion He fee fit to read fome other Chapter more fuited to that Purpose, and fhall preface it as the firft Leffon.

After it is finished, He may also, if agreeable, add a fhart practical Comment to expound what is difficult to the Unlearned, and apply it particularly; but let Him be careful herein to utter nothing but what may be to Edification, and not to engender Strife or Uncharitablenefs by unchriftian Applica

tions.

And when He concludes, let Him always fay
Here endeth the Second Leffon.

M. And to that End, We muft treafure it in our Hearts, and practise it in our Lives, and doubt not of its bleffed Effects to our everlafting Salvation.

P. By the Grace of God, we hope fo to do, through Chrift our bleffed Redeemer. Amen.

Or this HYMN following may be faid instead of the above, especially when the Second Leffon is from the Acts of the Apostles, and not from the Gospels.

SM Bleffed be the Lord God omnipotent, who hath vifited and redeemed Us by Chrift Jefus our Lord,

Who was born of a pure Virgin, of the Seed of David, whom God exalted to be the Means of our Salvation;

P. And He hath, on his part, performed the promised Mercy, and fulfilled his holy Covenant;

M. As He declared to our Forefather Adam (Gen. iii. 15.) and to Abraham, that he wou'd grant us; that We being delivered from our Enemies, might ferve Him without Fear, in Holiness and Righteousness, all the Days of our Life, through Chrift;

P.. Whofe coming in the Flesh was proclaimed, and prepared by a Prophet of the most high God,

M. To give Knowledge of Salvation to all the People of God, by the Remiffion of their Sins, if truly penitent;

P. Through the tender Mercy of God, whereby the Day-fpring from on high hath visited us ;

M. To give Light to them that fit in Darkness and in the Shadow of Death, and to guide us in the Way of Peace and Happiness,

P. Through the Love of God the Father, by our bleffed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and the Sanctifica tion of the Holy Spirit; Amen.

Now, while the Minifter and People all fit down, let a devoti-. onal Tune be played on the Organ, where there is one; or ·let a Pfalm or Hymn in Metre be sung by the whole Congregation.

After which, let the following ADMONITION be recited alternately by the Minifter (or his Affiftant) and People, fitting or flanding as most agreeable, on every Sonday and on other extraordinary Occafions, as fhall be judged conve

nient.

M. My Chriftian Friends, the Holy Scriptures command us to commit no Murder, to injure no Man; to avoid Fornication, Adultery, and fleshly Lufts; for Such as do thefe Things fhall not inherit the Kingdom of God. Neither may we covet what is another's, but muft carefully abstain from all manner of Theft and Robbery, and from all Fraud and unjust Gain; and let there be juft Weights and Meafures: for All that do Unrighteoufnefs in fuch Things are an Abomination to the Lord. P. Wo unto him that buildeth his Houfe by Unrightcoufnefs, that ufeth his Neighbor's Service without Wages, and giveth him not for his Work. (b)

M. A good Man fheweth favor and lendeth, he will guide his Affairs with Difcretion: He dealeth his Bread to the hungry, and bringeth the Poor that are caft out into his House; when he feeth the naked, he cloatheth him, and hideth not himself from his own Flesh. Pure Religion and undefiled before God is, to vifit the Fatherlefs and Widows in their Affliction, and to keep one's felf unspotted from the World. (c)

P. Bleffed is He that confidereth the Poor; the Lord will deliver him in the Time of Trouble. (d)

M. Let us not rejoice when our Enemy falleth, nor if evil cometh to him; but love our Enemies, and do good to them that hate us, that we may be the Children of God; for if we forgive Men their Trefpaffes, our heavenly Father will alfo forgive us. Let us then recompence to no Man evil for evil; neither be overcome of evil; but overcome evil with good, (e)

P. Say not, I will recompence Evil, I will do fo to him, as he hath done to me; I will render to the Man, according to his Work. (f)

M. Let us not be proud, nor wife in our own conceit; neither be defirous of vain Glory; but put on Meeknefs and Lowlinefs of Mind: for the Lord refifteth the proud, but giveth Grace to the meek and humble. (g)

P. A proud Look the Lord hateth; and every one that is proud in Heart is an Abomination unto him. (b)

M. Let us abhor that which is evil, and cleave to that which is good, and lay afide the Sin that most eafily befetteth us; and run with Patience the Race that is fet before us, ftriving to enter in at the ftraight Gate: for ftraight is the Gate, and narrow is the Way, that leadeth unto Life. (i)

M. Let us not then be conformed to this World, but take heed to ourselves, left at any time our Hearts be over-charged with Surfeiting and Drunkenness, and the Cares or Pleasures of this Life: and let us beware of Covetoufnefs, for the Love of Money is the Root of all evil. (k)

P. A little that the righteous Man hath is better than the Riches of many wicked. ()

M. We are exhorted also in God's facred Word, to fet our Affections on things above, and not on things below; and that we fhou'd lay up for ourselves Treafures in Heaven, and not upon the Earth; affuring us, that where our Treasure is, there will our Heart be also. Let us therefore not love this World, nor the things that are in the World; for the Luft of the Flesh, the Luft of the Eyes, and the Pride of Life are not of God, but of the World. (m)

P. And if any one love these things, the Love of the Father is not in him.

M. Let us then be temperate in all things, and live foberly in this World; being contented with our Condition, patient under Sufferings, walking humbly before God. (n)

P. And let us be anxious for nothing; but in every thing by Prayer and Supplication with Thanksgiving let our Requests be made known unto God. (0)

For God will bring every Work into Judgement, with every fecret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil; and will render to Every one according to his Deeds; to those who keep his Commandments, and patiently continue in well-doing, He will give Glory and Honor, Peace and eternal Life.
