N. B. If any of the particular Forms of Thanksgiving (inferted at the end of this Morning Service) are thought neceffary, they may likewife be how read.

Then while the Congregation fit down, the Minifter (or his Affiftant, if he hath one,) fhall read a Chapter, or Part of a Chapter from the Old Teftament, as appointed in the Table of Leffons for every Day, unless fome particular Occafion fhou'd render any other Chapter feem more fuitable and edifying, which is left to his discretion to alter, fo that he does not conftantly do fo.

Before reading the Chapter, He fhall always fay, The first (or (fecond) Leffon for this Morning Service is taken out of fuch a Book, and fuch a Chapter, beginning at fuch a verfe, naming the Book, Chapter and Verfe. And at the Conclufion, let him fay, Here endeth the first (or fecond) Leffon. And if he judges it necessary, he may add a short Comment or practical Improvement on the Chapter then read, to apply it more particularly to the Ufes and Inftruction of his Hearers, but fhou'd herein however be as fhort and concife as poffible, in the manner of M. Oftervald's Arguments of the Books and Chapters of the Old and New Testament, with practicalObfervations, for theUfe of the Church of Neufchattel, which deferves to be read every where, as vė→ well fitted for the Benefit of the unlearned and poor.

After this, the Congregation standing up, the Minifter fhallagain address them, as followeth ;

My Chriftian Friends, let us proceed again to praise and bless the holy Name of God moft high. And that we may not unworthily adore him, let us pray for the Influence of his good Spirit, to purifie our Hearts and fix our Minds, fo that we may now and ever magnifie his glorious Majefty, which I pray God to grant, through Jefus Chrift our Lord.

P. Amen.

[M. To thee, O God, we raife up our Hearts, with our Voice, in humble Oblations of grateful Praife for all thy Mercies and Bleffings.

P. O, let them be acceptable to Thee, as holy Incenfe, fpiritually offered, in Jefus Christ our High-Priest, at thy Throne of Glory. Amen.]

A Chriftian HYMN, to be recited alternately by the Minifter and People, except on the fecond or nineteenth Days of the · Month, when it chiefly occurs in the courfe of Hymns to be ordinarily read afterwards, and on thefe Days farticularly, and others at difcretion, the Hymn following it is to be read in its flead.

M. O come, let us fing unto the Lord, and magnifie him with joyful Songs of Praife; let us lift up our Voice to the God of our Salvation. (P. xcv.)

P. Let us now before his Prefence continue our grateful Thanksgivings, and rejoice before him with Pfalms.

M. For the Lord is a great God, and the great King above all Gods; his Throne is over all Dominion in Heaven or in Earth.

P. Let all the Earth fear him, let all the Inhabitants of the World ftand in awe of him.

M. In his Hand are all the Corners of the Earth, and the Strength of the Hills is his alfo; the Sea is his, and He made it; and his Hands prepared the dry Land.

P. He is the Lord our God; we are the People of his Pafture and the Sheep of his Hand.

M. And if in the day of this Life we wou'd hear his Voice in Mercy, let us not harden our Hearts, nor provoke him to wrath by rebellious and finful Souls;

P. As did the ftubborn Jews, not only forty years in the Wilderness, but almoft throughout all their Generations; M. Tempting and prefumptuously provoking him to deftroy them, although they faw his wonderful Works and his almighty Power;

P. Yet they wou'd not regard his Laws, nor his righteous Judgments, but acted wickedly, as if they had never feen or known them,

M. And idolatrously erred in their Hearts, and provoked him to exclude them the Land of Promife; and He hath referved them to his terrible day of final Judgment.

P. O let us by their dreadful Doom hear, and fear, and do no more wickedly.

M. Let us ceafe to offend the Lord our God, and chearfully love him for his infinité Goodness to us; let us de

light to obey his gracious. Laws, and live in holiness of Life.

P. Thy Word, O Lord, will I lay up in my Heart that may not fin againft Thee; I will meditate upon thy Pre cepts, and will not forget thy Word. (P. cxix. 11, 15.) M. The righteous Lord loveth Righteoufnefs, his Count tenance beholdeth the upright. (P. xi. 7.)

P. The Prayer of the upright is his Delight, but the Sa crifice of the wicked is an Abomination unto him. (Prov. xv. 8.)

1. M. Therefore if Sinners entice us, let us not confent but refrain, our feet from their path, neither defire to be with them. (Prøv. i. 10, 15.)

M. Bleffed is the Man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his Commandments. (Pf. cxxviii. 1.) P. Bleffed are They that keep his Teftimonies, and that feek him with their whole Heart. (P. cxix. 2.) M. The Eyes of the Lord are upon the Righteous, and his Ears are open unto their Prayers. (P. xxxiv, 15.) P. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of an humble Heart, and faveth fuch as are of a contrite Spirit.(18.)

M. Thou art not a God that haft Pleafure in Wickednefs; Thou abhorreft wicked and deceitful Men.

P. The Hypocrite fhall not ftand in thy Prefence, O Lord; Thou hateft all the Workers of Iniquity. (PS. v. 4, 5.)

M. Thou wilt cut off all flattering Lips, and the Tongue that fpeaketh proud Things. (P. xii. 3.) P. And Whofo privily flandereth his Neighbor, him wilt thou deftroy.

M. Who can understand his Errors? Cleanfe Thou Us, O Lord, from every fecret Fault: Keep back thy Servants alfo from wilful Sins, and let not evil Habits have Dominion over Us.

Or instead of either of the two laft Hymns, may be read the TE DEUM (inferted after the End of this Morning Service) on particular Occafions, at Difcretion of the Mimister.

Then Shall follow one of the HYMNS compofed from the Pfalms and other Parts of Scripture (inferted at the End) in the Order as they are divided for each Day of the Month, the Minifter firft naming the Day and the Number of the Hymn, and a Verfe is to be alternately recited by Minifter and People. After that is over, the Minifter (or his Af fiftant) may thus address them;

HAVING, now, my Chriftian Brethren, offered up unto God our Adorations of his divine Being, and our hum→ ble Acts of Praife and Thanksgiving for his innumerable Mercies and Favors,

[I entreat you to hearken with Reverence and Attention to his facred Word, as it is revealed to us in the Holy Gofpel of our Lord and Savior Jefus Chrift, [for our Faith and Practice in all good Works, for our Profit and Confolation here on Earth, and in a joyful Hope of our eternal Happiness in Heaven hereafter.1 And God grant, that by his Grace we may hear and receive it with pure Affection, rightly understand it, and conftantly practife it, in all our Thoughts, Words and Works, in Obedience to his facred Commands, and to our temporal and eternal Happiness, through Jefus Chrift, our bleffed Mediator and Redeemer.

Or if the Second Leffon is not that Day taken out of any of the four Gofpels, but from the Acts of the Apoftles, He may read thus, immediately after innumerable Mercies and Favors (p. 22.)

LET us pray for the Affiftance of God's gracious Spirit to help us to understand the Holy Scriptures, that are able to make us wife unto Salvation,

Then let him read this Collect, All devoutly kneeling;

GOD, who haft graciously revealed thy holy Will to Us in the facred Scriptures of Truth, and halt therein declared the happy Means of our Re demption from Death, and our Sanctification to eternal Life, and inftructed us in true Knowledge and Wifdom, for our Comfort and Security in all things, and for our temporal and eternal Happiness, for which we blefs thy holy Name; We moft humbly pray Thee to grant Us thy Grace, to induce us with due Attention to read, hear, obferve and understand them, and effectually to believe, and diligently to practile the Truths contained in them, that we may glorifie Thee our God by perfevering in our Duty to Thee, to our Neighbor, and to Ourfelves, and finally obtain everlafting Felicity in thy heavenly Kingdom, in the Name and through the Mediation of Jefus Chrift, thy bleffed Son our Savior;
